Default Train rides

Are there any train rides in Kentucky? I know Chattanooga, TN, has a train ride you can take in the fall to see the different colors of the leaves. I know Amtrak doesn't have a station in KY, but are there any non-freight trains running through KY?

Thanks!

I think that there are quite a few scenic and/or historic trains, including excursions and train rides that you can take throughout the year.

For example:

The "My Old Kentucky Dinner Train" in Bardstown:

The Bluegrass Scenic Railroad and Museum in Versailles:

The Big South Fork Scenic Railway in Stearns/Daniel Boone National Forest:

I went on Big South Fork over the summer and it was nice and I bet it would be GORGEOUS in the fall not to mention it is close to Cumberland Falls and Lake Cumberland.

Default AMTRAK in Kentucky

The City of New Orleans runs through Fulton, KY. There's also an Amtrak route along the river at Ashland.

I did the Dinner Train in Bardstown. It was nice, but the scenery was that of the people's backyards who lived along the tracks. Lots of cars on blocks, backyard refridgerators and trailer parks. Not exactly scenic. Good food though.

Thanks so much for the info folks, and especially, the links from nlschr0!

I was looking at the Amtrak "Browse by region" maps, and because no routes were criss-crossing the state (through Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort, etc.), I wrongly assumed that there was no Amtrak in KY.

missymom3: Maybe you could try The Big South Fork ride. The scenery looks great.

Again, thanks, folks.

We have some friends who moved to New Orleans so we toyed with the idea of driving to Fulton to jump on Amtrak to go there for a visit. But I read that the pickups on the route were in the 2 a.m. timeframe and then I found these photos of the station. Take a look, they are a hoot! Amtrak - Fulton, KY

I've wondered if they are out of date (they say 2002) but Fulton is too far a drive and Amtrak is too expensive to book a ticket and then find out!
