Either area would be great. The one thing you can always count on in Kentucky - any small town is a great place to have kids. That is not to say that bad things can't happen - they just rarely do.
My kids have always had the run of the streets here in Southern Bullitt county. Parents all watch out for the others, and usually, if the kids mess up - mom knows before thay even get home!
Either of those areas would be highly recommended. Send a message to suncoastman - he is movingto berea - has already been there for fat finding, and should have much info for you.
Richmond is closer to Lexington - so if shopping or other amenities are important, too - that area will be great also.
Happy Hunting!

No problem! I hope the links help. I have always found it easier to go straight to the city itself - they can give you stats, and often have relocation packages, info on companies hiring, projected growth, etc.
I have always wanted to visit Maine - but I don't think I could take the cold winters. Sometimes Kentucky is too cold for me - like today - it's 15 degrees right now! This is not the norm, but it does happen!
Good luck on your search!

Hi again Catlily! Sorry this is so late after your post. I'm trying to catch up on everything. I live in Waco, which is between Berea and Richmond. 2 of my kids attend Madison Southern, the high school in Berea. My youngest attends a county elementary. We have had really good experiences with all the schools the kids have gone to. My son is a SR. this year, and has a learning disability, diagnosed in 3rd grade. He has a 3.5 GPA! He does the exact same work as the other kids, but gets his tests, etc. in a different format. The schools have been great with working with him and myself-since I'm one of those nosy Moms who is at the school constantly! LOL.
As for the two cities, I would be more partial to Berea, since it is dry. They have the Boys and Girls Club, and several other programs. Richmond is quite a bit bigger, but still has some really good schools. There is also several smaller communities, such as mine (Waco) around the area. Check out Madison County Board of Realty website, and it will give you some idea of prices. www.mcbrhomes.com Hope all this helps, and if I can give you any more info, I'd be glad to!

Just a quick note to suggest contacting the Berea Chamber of Commerce. They have a relocation packet they'll send out. I got mine in two or three days from the time I sent my first email through the website! It's very much focused on Berea itself, and doesn't have much about the county, but what it does have is very well done and useful.
I also suggest looking at community groups you might like to get involved with, and dropping them an email through their websites. I've gotten multiple replies from all of those I've sent, with suggestions of other people to contact as well.
The Kentucky welcome comes through even over the internet!
(I haven't been in Berea since I was about four years old, and all my kin are in other counties, but my mom and grandmother are delighted we're looking to move there so they can come visit!)
