Alright now! nobody has anything good to say about their town?ok how about the negatives?Like Danville needs a bypass to the north would make it easier to get east of town .your turn.

Well Danville is a great town. I love their downtown, very nice and historic.

Anyway to my town....

London positives: low crime, friendly people, Laurel Lake, Levi Jackson Park, revitalization taking place downtown, low unemployment rate, all schools in Laurel Co. are either new or have been completely remodeled, easy access to other parts of the state (or other states) via major highways going east, west, north and south, a new hospital opening in 2010 in a much better location than the current one.

Hello, we will be moving to the Danville area soon. I'm layed off and will take advantage of the Veterans Workforce Investment Act which will allow me to go back to school. I guess 43 isn't too old to go back to college. I'm looking at colleges in Richmond and Lexington. My wife is a Pharmacy Technician and will be looking for employment also. We are moving from Arizona. The town we live in is very small (about 2000 people, one gas station, grocery store, two eatin places, bout it). The closest town with walmart is one hour away but any real shopping, entertainment, etc is 3 hours away in Tucson or Las Cruces. What is the area like for family (two boys 10 and 9 years old)? How about rent houses, schools, friendly neighbors, etc? My wife is from Alabama, I'm from East Texas. Are there any lakes, rivers for good fishing? How about hunting and camping. Are there any Cub Scouts out there, my boys love scouting. I would love to hear opinions, good or bad. Thank you.

Hi Donhall07... Welcome to the Danville area... almost. This is a very nice place to live. I live about 30 minutes from Danville. While it isn't my favorite town around here, it is where we do a lot of "trading" and rec. activities. I work in Somerset, which is my choice for running to the grocery store, Wal-marting, etc. My husband was hurt last year and is also taking advantage of a program that is sending him back to school. He's 35... Somerset Community College is a great place for non-traditional students, as there are tons of them. He likes it ok, but has about 2 years until he hits UK. The good thing about SCC is that with a certain GPA upon graduation, you can attend any of the public universities in KY for the price of SCC... which is seriously affordable. Since he is getting assistance with tuition and the program, that's just money in our pocket for now. Anyway... Lincoln Co. is where we live and it's super friendly. Oh... I meant to say in Somerset, there is Lake Cumberland, which is gorgeous. There are also a lot of rivers, streams and creeks. There are lots of scout programs, as well as 4-H here. My daughter is in a "shooting" club with 4-H where they shoot rifles, bows, and shot guns. Very organized and supervised on a range. So... anyway... just thought I'd share.

Since I am living somewhere in KY besides Louisville or Lexington for the first time since 1994 I can answer a question with the word "town" in it

I got an apartment in Nicholasville a week and a half ago. The main things I like about it are the convenience of having so much shopping and restaurants along 1 mile of old US 27 (Wal Mart SC, Tractor Supply, and 20 fast food restaurants), the more spread out traffic signals with shorter cycles, and the cheaper housing compared to Lexington. It's also very close to the very scenic Kentucky River

Thanks for the info. I'll check out SCC. We are also looking at Embry Riddle Univ. at Ft.Campbell, probably live around the Clarksville, Tn area. Also looking at Northern Kentucky U. at Highland Heights but I'm not too sure about living that close to Cincinnatti. I've seen a few opinions on cost of living- Kentucky vs Tennessee. What are your opinions? Arizona has a 9.25% sales tax and state income tax. How do they compare?

I may try to work part time while attending school and there are several postings in Lexington for pharm tech. She may be able to get a position there or one of the hospitals or clinics. Unemployment is high here too. The company I worked for has layed off about 6500 of 8000 people. This includes around 4000 contractors and its the only place to work here. When the mine shuts down thats it. There is nothing else. The cost of living is very high here with a state income tax, sales tax of 9.25%, vehicle registration for our two trucks cost me about $800/ yr. And driving through three hours of dessert to go shopping is no fun. I hate this place and I feel like if I could just get back South things will get better for us. There is one thing I know for sure- If you are unhappy where you live there will always be problems but if you are happy where you live other things will work themselves out. So I'm looking forward to getting back to our kind of country and our kind of people. Thanks for your help. If you have suggestions on where to look for rental houses somewhere in the $500 range and 3 bdrm if possible please let me know. If this is not a realistic figure what is?
