Default Back from the other 'Ville (pics of Pikeville & EKY trip)

Here are some pics I took today along Mountain Parkway and US 23, including Pikeville

Downtown Pikeville is VERY urban for a town of 6,000. I counted 5 buildings over 5 stories and one that was 10 stories. It also has some absolutly beautiful historic neighborhoods that reminds me of some of Pittsburgh's nicer areas

It starting raining really hard, so I could only take pictures from the car. I'd love to have 30 minutes to walk around and take pics of all of downtown

Suburban areas north of Pikeville along US 23

Some of the huge rock cuts along US 23

US 23 @ KY 80 (Hazard, Somerset)

Mountain Parkway - first view of the mountains (mile marker 9)

MT PKY is just 2 lanes from Campton to Salyersville

Wonderful photos! Look at all those mountains. I see some of the leaves are starting to change colors. How high up (altitude) were you!

That is from the drought. It hasn't got anywhere near freezing yet to make tham change.

It has absolutly pouring when we left and the car wipers were smearing really badly (hadn't had to use the wipers lately since it hasn't rained in Triangliana in a month) so we stopped at the Wal Mart there. A very nice man went out in the pouring rain and changed the wipers - he did so without knowing he'd get a $5 tip.

Pikeville is also surprising well educated and somewhat diverse. According to American Factfinder 26.2% had at least a Bachelor's Degree in 2000 (higher than Louisville) and 2.64% are Black, 1.25%are Asian, and 1.4% are Hispanic. The median household income is $36,792. Pikeville College is also the smallest American college to offer a medical degree
