Hard time finding rentals in Paducah area
It's looking like my boyfriend is going to be doing a contracting job in the Paducah area and I have been having a heck of a time looking for apartments in the area. What are the newspapers of the area as craigslist is is coming up pretty empty.

There was a story in the Paducah Sun 4 or 5 months ago that pointed out that apartments were filling up at an incredible rate. You may want to try a couple things: First, look at the surrounding counties like Marshall and Graves. There are parts of these counties that are within 20 minutes of any part of Paducah. Secondly, look into renting a condo or house in Paducah or the surrounding counties. Houses tend to be cheaper per square foot than apartments, but utility costs tend to be more expensive.

I wonder if the mortage crisis might be causing a run on lower income housing such as apartments?
Isn't there some nice historic areas near Fountain Ave?

Thank you for your responses. I was thinking of renting a house, but can't seem to find any listings, even in surrounding states. I went to the Paducah Sun online, but it comes up with zero listings in the classified section so, I'm not sure what other resources I could turn to.

There is plenty of rentals available in Mayfield, directly south of Paducah about 20 miles. There is even plenty of property for sale.

Hey there!
Basically, there are very few rentals advertised in Paducah--it's more of a work of mouth thing. I know there's a really lovely Victorian (small) available in Lowertown, tho' I'm not sure how much the lady is charging for it, now. The house I'm currently in (and about to move out of, since I just purchased a home) will be up for rent on November 1st, but I would highly advise NOT moving in, for reasons including the fact that the landlady hiked the rent by $100. There are some very nice apartments in downtown/Lowertown called the "Courthouse Station" apartments. I know one of the units is for rent right now. ALSO, if you're going to be in town, try going to Etcetera coffeeshop (also in Lowertown...I live there, so it's the area I'm most familiar with!). They always have postings for rentals, and the gals that work there are pretty knowledgeable about places for rent, as well.
Finally, you have to subscribe to the Paducah Sun (either the online version or the paper form) in order to view the rentals. There are usually quite a few at any given time.
If you have any other questions or need me to look at something for you, I'd be more than happy to oblige and/or keep my eyes peeled.
Good luck!

You will get a good chuckle on how much it costs for the Sun. Hell, they even charge for reading it online. Who else does that besides the Paxton gestapo?

Thank you so very much for this info! I was wondering why I couldn't see any of the classifieds from the newspaper online and it stinks for an out of stater looking for apartments. I will be sure to check these places out when I arrive there if I haven't found anything!

The Paducah Sun online edition only costs $5 a month, so a one time investment might be worth it. It costs less than a single trip to McDonalds
Nationwide renting is becoming much more difficult. During the last 10 years there were TONS of apartments converted to condos because of the real estate market which constricted the supply. Now that the real estate market is tightening and credit is harder to find many people are moving back into rentals driving prices up. All of that in on top of an already-tight Paducah rental market.

There's a rental 3 doors down from my new (old) house! It's not an incredible area, but it's coming up, and the price probably isn't too bad. It's also across the street from a bakery. Let me know if you want the #.
