Hendersons downtown
I am considering Henderson to relocate too. I love the waterfront, but I wasn't real impressed with the downtown, it is clean but doesn't seem like much going on........Where were the coffeeshops, bookstores and such? Did I miss them? I am not talking borders or starbucks, I am talking the quaint privately owned ones.

There's not really much of anything along the lines of coffee houses in henderson. not even a borders or starbucks. There isn't really much of anything in Henderson. There is one coffee shop that I know of downtown off of green street, but it is drive thru only. Across the bridge, in Evansville though, there are plenty. i like the penny lane coffee house on second street, they do poetry readings and stuff...very nice.

Try the following websites - hopefully this will get you started. You may also want to contact the Chamber of Commerce to see if anything is in the works as to what you are seeking.
City of Henderson Welcome
Henderson County Tourist Commission, Henderson, KY/
That is an issue with most medium to small KY towns. Not alot going on - certainly nothing like you would find in Louisville, Lexington or such. However, the locals always know the best places to go, perhaps spending a little more time and asking around would help? I've never been a shy person (chatty cathy!), and would talk to the clerks in the local mini-marts, the bank - places like that and see what word of mouth gets you. You may be surprised to find a few diamonds in the rough!

Henderson is one of those towns where, when you go to a "coffee shop", you find it's just a small restaurant. Not sure if it's still there but there used to be a place in Henderson where you had a coffee cup there with your name on it. You come in, find your cup, pour your own, and have a seat and talk with your buddies. Just nice, relaxed, where "everybody knows your name". lol I know the kind you're talking about and you would have to go to Evansville.

really youd have to go to louisville...or nashville. The coffee shop scene is sorely lacking in evansville too. I actually spoke with the owner of penny lane about that last time i was there and she agreed.
Yes, penny lane is pretty kick butt in evansville but there is very literally nothing else. evansville is the kind of town that gets excited about starbucks and the next chain restaurant opening. anyways penny lane reminds me of the old louisville coffeehouse, which serves intelligentsia coffee, which in turn reminds me of the fixx coffee bar in chicago. ah the nostalgia

Actually, there is a cute coffee shop in downtown Henderson. Planter's Coffeehouse is located in what used to be a bank on Main St. It has this great upstairs area and super high ceilings. The only bad part is that it's only open 9-3 M-F, and not at all on the weekends!
