State of the State
California where I live, is in terrible shape financially at the State level. Incompetent legislatures, etc have brought the State just about to it's knees financially.
What is the situation with the Kentucky's State finances. Good, bad, a surplus, a deficit, a mess, great??? This is at the State level, not personal, etc.

This is not a political thread, but everyone must look at which states are in trouble as California is. Entitlements have destroyed rather than build economies. The war on poverty has been much more economically damaging than the war against terrorism.
Kentucky and Indiana were on the right track towards financial recovery until Kentucky elected a democrat governor. So to directly answer your question, it's not bad here now, but just wait.

You said something about this not being a political thread then you started some a wild statement. I was working for the state of Kentucky when Fletcher, a Republican, was running for reelection as governor. Word came down from Frankfort in round about ways, several times, that if Fletcher lost, let's just say he's a very sore loser! And what happened? Of course he lost! And what happened? When Joe Prather, incoming Transportation Secretary went to meet with then Transportation Secretary (and now indicted) Bill Nighbert for the transition to office, what did Nighbert tell him? You aint got no money! Uncle Ernie went on a spending spree after the election! The Transportation Dept. wasn't the only one left almost broke. So don't dump that crap on the democrats!
And don't get me started on Bush! I like to be kind to dumb animals!
To the moderator and anybody else, I apologize for this but I get tired of people who like to blame with out checking out the facts.

Hi,
My question was NOT meant to be political.
The economy and condition of a State's finances will be of interest if in fact not of high concern to anyone contemplating a move to Kentucky. You will note in my question I mentioned NO political party.
This is a request for information of a NON political nature, to guide a decision on moving to Kentucky and I am sure others will be interested.

With my first post I was being NON political. That's why I sent you the url for what the governor had to say about it. Sorry for the outburst. Wasn't any need is 2 of us talking about something that should have been left out. Saw you were asking in Tennessee too. When, or if, you head this way, do us all a big favor...leave the smog out there! lol

I too was being non-political. I was being historical. Nothing to do with Beshear or Fletcher. The kind of crap detailed above is normal politics in this state, always has been. I hate it. I apologize to anyone who feels I didn't do a better job of explaining my point.
My predictions for the future are simply based on the common standard that "Kentucky will get what California has five to ten years later."

Yes, I understand, whether McCain or Obama win, it's not about November 5, 2008, its about January 21, 2013 that matters.
