I've always been partial to the western part of the state, but this time of year you might find a little more to do up around the Louisville/Lexington area. I'm not saying there's nothing to do but I think you could find more to do for the weekend up there. That's going to be a good drive for a holiday weekend getaway! lol Go to this site Overview - Kentucky Department of Travel and click on the different colored sections of the state. That will show you some things to see and do in Kentucky. Have a good and safe trip wherever you go!

I suppose before I can answer, I have to ask what exactly you want to do in Kentucky? Are you looking for a quiet weekend? Are you looking for a fun time in an urban area (Lousiville,Lexington,Northern Kentucky)? Also any particular type of driving you want to avoid? If you want to avoid hill driving there are certain parts of the state to avoid.

If the guy is really from the Bronx like it states in the "Location", then there won't be ANY city/town in KY that will suit their urban needs. If you want quiet, then KY may be for you. Plenty of places like that here.

Mammoth Cave is pretty cool. Berheim Forrest in the fall is awesome.
Is Churchill Downs open now? That would be worth the trip to Louisville.

Red River Gorge, hands down! It is a natural wonder! Great hiking paths, numerous natural arches. We just went camping there last weekend and each time we go we remark as to how beautiful it is.

I agree that the Gorge is awesome, but the weather could be nasty around Thanksgiving and seeing it on a gray, cold, rainy day just wouldn't do it justice.
I second the Mammoth Cave suggestion--the temperature in the caves remains constant year round, so it doesn't really matter when you visit. Afterwards, you could drive about 45 minutes south of the Caves and take in the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.
Important note: Keep in mind that in Bowling Green, it's proper to pronunce the word "Corvette" as a four-syllable word: Co-oar-vay-ette.
