Smile Leitchfield

Hello
We are looking at places to move to for our retirement, somewhere quiet private, with plenty of acreage for our 5 small dogs. I found a lovely home in the Leitchfield vicinity. Can anyone tell me if this is a good area to live

Many thanks

Wonderful country, quiet area. Not too far from Elizabethtown for shopping, and I am guessing by now there is probably much more development there now than when I was there last year. They were widening the higways then - so I am sure it has grown some.

Also, you are very close to lakes, fishing and camping, and there are still neighbors and people to get to know who will stand and talk in the store - not so hurried!

Try this link for more info...

You'll be in Grayson county, so if you google search, you should be able to fing more info if you need it.

The best thing about Leitchfield? It has great access to I-65 - your gateway to anywhere you want to go.
My grandfather was born and raised in Caneyville - just down the road, and it was always a good childhood memory.

Good luck to you!!

Actually, I think Richmond is going to be a little better. It is closer to I-75, and Lexington/Frankfort area - and the town is steeped in history. It has been a long time since I have visited - but I am guessing there is more to do (antiques, shopping, etc.), and the history, architecture will probably be a little more.

It was settled before Leitchfiled, so it does have a more historical feel.
Either would be great - Check with the Chamber of Commerce in Richmond for a relocation packet - and google the town site. It should help you decide.

Oh - and it is possible to visit both places in one day - as they are about 2 hours (approx.) apart - connecting from I-65 up to the Bluegrass pkwy to Lexington - a google map or mapquest will give you a great route.

Hope you visit soon!

G' Morning Margaret!
Richmond is a really nice little town-even if it is a college town. We are about 24 miles from Lexington, which has the BEST shoppping. It is also about 10 miles from Berea, a really quiet little town with lots of folk art and antiques.

The best part is the housing is really affordable without having to live in the "boonies". Also, check out the surrounding little towns (like mine, Waco) if you want out in the country a little, but not far enough out to have to plan an all day trip for a grocery store visit!

here's you some links to check out the area:

Come on down for a visit-betcha won't want to leave!
Oh, and this area is VERY dog friendly. Richmond even had a Halloween costume party for dogs. Yes, my doggie, Libby, was in it. She's spoiled They blocked off Main Street and the surrounding streets, and set up booths where you could get everything from free doggie treats to coupons for vet visits. Hope this helps! ~joanna~

Joanna - thanks so much for that! It's been a while since I have been there - but I did enjoy the 'feel' of it. Leitchfield is great - but hisorically speaking - I was thinking just what you said!

You are always so helpful! Thanks!

Default Thanks so much Kimmiey and Joanna

You guys are awesome, thanks so much for all the info.
Its a really hard decision to know where to live in Kentucky it all looks so lovely. I have been looking from Stearns to Russell Springs, to Leitchfield and Richmond plus others, I notice that Berea was considered really nice. We are putting our home up for sale in S California end of March/April, I cant wait to move. As soon as we sell we will spend a week or so looking.
I am from England originally and Kentucky reminds me of home.

Thanks so much again,
Margaret

Margaret - if you are intersested in Berea - you can do a google search for the area and it will give you a list of events, town history, etc. Also - one of our members, suncoastman, is iin Berea this week - looking at houses. He is relocating from Florida - and I promise he will have a plethora of info about the area.

Just send jim a pm - tell him Kimmiey sent ya - and I know he will be more than happy to help.

Good luck to you - and about your being from England - this is silly for me to say having never been there, but as I watch movies and documentaries I KNOW were shoy in England - it did remind me of many places I have visited here IN Kentucky. My family (dad's side) is originally from Wales - and I have always wanted to go back and find the rest of the Powell's. My family tree thusfar goes back to the early 1700's when te first group came to Virginia, then continued moving west. Would love to trace it all down one day!

Welcome 'home' and if you need anything - don't hesitate to ask! Joanna and I will be here!

Thanks Kimmiey
I will do that, as for finding your ancestors, Did you try familysearch.org. I am sure you probably have though.
Mind you I must admit that my own Mom cant find any of her ancestors from England herself. it seems very difficult to find out any info from there.
Typically they want you to pay for every bit of info.

Have a great day
Margaret

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it. I really would like to get more info, but I don't have disposable cash to look them up! Oh well - maybe one day....

But seriously, suncoastman (joe) will be a wealth of info for you .

Good luck.
