Gillispie is recruiting like a madman at Kentucky so far. I assure you UK fans are happy with Coach Gillispie.
He has one 5 star player coming in next year (a guy who Gillispie paid $7,000 to run a camp) and a pair of 2/3 star guys, his other "commits" are still several years from college. 2DUI Billy has already had the coaches union make 2 new rules targeted towards his recruitment of middle schoolers who haven't even commited to a HS yet.
UK is on a 5 game winning streak with wins over Kansas State and West Virginia (both top 50 teams). UK just beat 5-0 Lamar by 42 points. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell this team is getting better.

As for UK's loss against VMI, its hard to beat a team that hits 14 3-pointers in one game. That team would have beaten almost any team that night.
The team is getting better - yes
The team is "good" - no
They have a ways to go. Beating Lamar doesnt impress anyone. Lets see how they do in the SEC.
Well you are going to give up 14 3's if you dont get down the court and gaurd. Their D was non existant that game. They knew the way VMI played and couldnt get down the court with them anyways.
This team has a chance to rise to maybe the 2nd or 3rd best team in the SEC, but could also be middle of the pack. Like i said lets see how they do in conference play.

He has gotten Michael Jordan to commit that if he has another son he will go to UK.
Don't get me wrong, 2DUI Billy hasn't flunked out on recruiting, but then again he hasn't done anything that Tubby didn't do. Tubby never hyped his recruits (like guys that are now in the NBA like Prince, Bogans, Azabuike, Hays, etc) 2DUI Billy promises 2 star recruits who are 3 years away from college that they will average 20 pts again as freshman
As for NITino, I'm starting to think that the game has passed him by. With all the best players spending 2 years in college at a maximum you can't just run everyone off the floor by pressing for 40 minutes.
NITino hasn.t accomplished anything with all his prema donnas from LA & NYC and his ex UK retred assistant coaches that Denny Crum didn't in the 1990s - or that lesser known coaches have done (like Purdue or Tenn)

You need to keep up with recruiting a little bit more. Right now there is a 5* Center in Orton, a 4* Forward in Hood, and a 3* Guard in Vilarino. He also already has a 5* verbal for 2010 and a projected 4* or 5* for 2011, and these classes aren't even close to being complete.

Hood is a white guy - there's NO reason to assume he'll be any better than Josh Carrier or JP Blevins were. As I recall Jared Carter was also recruited by UNC and he was a complete bust
"" According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Larry Orton pocketed $4,800 from Kentucky for 16 speaking engagements at Wildcats summer camps. Terrence Crawford, Daniel's stepbrother, was paid $1,950 for nine talks he gave to Kentucky campers""

Talk about spin! We're just going to ignore Hood b/c he's white. White guys can't contibute anything to a team.........just ignore Hansbrough, most of the Duke players, and UK greats like Jeff Shepherd, Travis Ford, and Kyle Macy (among many others).
BTW, if you think UK's the only team that does that with parents and AAU coaches to get players to commit you're mistaken. Marc Maggard actually catalogued several of the big-time programs that have done this in the last couple years. I don't remember if UofL was part of this group or not. Regardless, it's currently legal under NCAA recruiting rules, and Gillispie is hardly the first coach to think of doing this.
I agree that all major college bball programs do stuff legal or otherwise to influence recruits, probably including Louisville and NITino. Gillspie's getting commitment from middle schoolers is pretty extreme compared to the other stuff, and the coaches union (headed by Tubby Smith ) recently banned it.
For the record, I met the Orton family at my church and they seemed like good folks. It took me (a 5'7 white guy) about 10 steps to walk around DO, who looks 6,10 and 400 lbs in a suit.
As for Hood, who does he play in his HS district? I love this state, but you can't pretend we're always putting out NBA all stars like NC or even TN. In the past 10 years I can only think of 5 in state players (Dejuan Wheat, Chris Lofton, Rajun Rondo, Patrick Sparks, & Larry Obannon) who truely stared at the college level. Antwaan Barbour, Josh Carrier, JP Blevins, Terrance Farley etc were major busts at the college level. Maybe Hood will, maybe he won't, but I wouldn't hang my hopes on him
Upper echelon high school talent isn't judged all that much on the high school level anymore. Hood plays for the Nashville Celtics on the AAU circuit. Hood didn't become a star recruit by playing in Hopkins County. He became highly recruited by travelling with the Celtics to tournaments against other top prep recruits all around the country.
I would also include in your list Derek Anderson (from Louisville, went to UK and was a draft pick), Dan Langhi (from Marshall County and went to Vandy where he was All-SEC, Wooden Award winner, and draft pick), Isaiah Victor (from University Heights in Hoptown who went to Tennessee and starred), Scotty Hopson (from Hoptown now at Tennessee and starting), Anthony Epps (starred at UK in the late 90s), Darius Miller (at UK and will be a major contributor next season if not this season), and some others that I can't think of off the top of my head. Kentucky isn't a talent rich state in basketball by any means, but there are usually a couple of top level recruits every year.
If there was a thread about who has the worst football team in KY right now I know U of L would win hands down. I'm surprised its 19 degrees in Louisville with all the hot air coming from Tom Jurich
