Anyone have any info on this area? We're looking at a home / land there. Any info would be helpful.

Well, property taxes for starters I guess. We'd found a home and land there that were planned on going to see this weekend, but by the time we got in touch with the realtor there was already a contract on it. And it's a really old farmhouse. I just know if the sale goes through the house will be torn down. Rips my heart out. We did find others in the same general area (NE KY).
No kids, so I'm not worried about schools. My husband's health isn't that great, so access to doctors and or hospitals.
Photos would be super excellent!! *wink*

Ah, okay. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what property taxes are here. We have a small home and pay less than $200 a year, for what that is worth.. I live in the Blaine area, between Paintsville (Johnson County) and Louisa.
For hospitals, Louisa has Three Rivers Medical Center, and King's Daughter's Medical Center (which is an amazing hospital, and where I delivered both of my daughters) is just north in Ashland. Paintsville also has Paul B Hall, and Highlands Regional Medical Center is just a little bit further south in Prestonsburg.
Here's the link to some pictures I posted from October of Yatesville Lake.. http://www.city-data.com/forum/5915645-post167.html as well as some others from my own front (and back) yard. http://www.city-data.com/forum/2650378-post19.html
Edited to add: http://hometown-re.com/listings.htm that's the website for homes in the Louisa area.

Of the almost 100 counties I've been to, I know almost nothing about Lawrence since I've never been there.
I know it sits on the Big Sandy, which is the border with West Virginia. Its county seat is Louisa. It has Yatesville Lake and a new Wal-Mart Supercenter. That's probably about it.
I would imagine the COL would be practically dirt cheap; the closest growing metro area is Lexington, more than two hours west.
