Good posts. I'm also guessing that Louisville is less educated than Lexington with respect to their populations because of Louisville's history of manufacturing jobs.

It's not the U of L vs UK game in Louisville, it's the annual game the UK plays in Louisville against another team. A lot of schools play such a game in their state's largest city, although they don't get 23,000 for home games either. It's all a question of playing a game for 25,000 alums in Louisville vs playing a game in front of 25,000 in Lexington. Most UK fans I know in Lexington hate it, most UK fans in Louisville like it.

I hearing the when the new Waterfront Arena is built UK will opt to play their annual game in Freedom Hall because they can get favorable scheduling there and theoretically get better opponents. The priority scheduling U of L currently has with Freedom Hall and will have at the New Arena makes finding an opponent difficult for UK.

Says who? I would be surprised if UK would want to play in Freedom Hall when the new arena will be one of the nicest in America.

Cats' game in the 'Ville lacks thrills | courier-journal | The Courier-Journal

"" The result is that UK -- which once played the likes of Kansas and Purdue in Freedom Hall -- is playing lower-profile opponents every year in its annual trip to Louisville.
If that trend is to change, UK athletic director Mitch Barnhart said yesterday, it likely won't be until at least 2010, when U of L is scheduled to move into its new downtown area. ""

"If the University of Kentucky chose to come back and play in Freedom Hall in the 2010 season, they should be able to get any priority date they want," said Ron Carmicle, who serves on the board at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. "If they decide they want to play in the downtown arena, they'd be back in the same situation they're in now."
