Question Looking for MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME . . .

Hi!

We are planning to move out of So. California in the next few years. The cost of living in So. Ca to run our business, regulations, and to support our family is sky-high. We are eager to escape the rat race of Southern California!

Our family business is autobody repair, specializing in insurance work. Is there much need for autobody repair in Kentucky? Other careers?

We are looking for acreage with a house plus facilities for horses. We would prefer a location with a small town feel and low crime but with economic opportunities. Schools are not an issue as we homeschool.

We are hoping to purchase a property now-ish and lease it back to seller or?? We won't be leaving California for a few years so we would prefer to purchase property that will be lived in and cared for until our big move. Our point is that we are open to talk over possibilities/creative ideas in order to make a sale work for.

ACREAGE. HORSE PROPERTY. HOME. NEAR CITY WITH WORK POTENTIAL (WE ARE A FAMILY OF HARD WORKERS). PRICE UNDER $300K (WAY UNDER, IF POSSIBLE). Low down payment. Seller financed, if possible.

Also, where is the most mild area of Kentucky -- lowest humidity? Most mild winter? Least buggy? Tornadoes?

Thank you so much for helping us with our search. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

I have always thought that the area around Lexington enjoys the best climate in the state. It has a ring of hills around it which break up weather patterns (tornadoes, cold fronts, etc.), sending them up the Ohio River.

You should know, though, that central Kentucky has a LOT of rain and heavy cloud cover, at least 5 months a year. Coming from southern California, you may find it oppressive. Seriously.

On the other hand, you might love it. Only you can say.

Kentucky homeschooling laws are some of the best in the nation.

You can easily find a lovely home for WELL under $300k.

Look at London too.

Around Lexington, the small towns I can recommend are: Versailles, Midway, Wilmore, Paris, Berea, Danville.

Elizabethtown, Bloomfield, Shelbyville are a little further west, and have a good bit to recommend them.

You might actually look in Franklin County and/or Owen County. Frankfort is the state capital, and there is a lot of absolutely beautiful countryside throughout the area. Really gorgeous rolling hills and valleys.

The whole state is MUCH prettier after April. If you go to look at it, wait until spring so you can truly appreciate it.

Thank you for your informative response! We will look into the areas you mentioned. Maybe our homeschooling paths will cross some day!

Take care! <><
