Default Any info about Harlan

Since my wife and I started talking about moving, I thought I would look here in Kentucky for some info about relatives who might still be in Harlan.

I am looking for anyone who may know the Vowell family. Descendants of Granderson Vowell married to Cora Lee Hightower.

My grandmother Gertrude Vowell married William Johnson. My father was born in Harlan 1929..

I believe my grandmother has sister(s) or niece(s) that are living in Harlan.

THANKS

I believe Edward Vowell is still in Harlan, he is a great great grandson of Granderson Vowell. Edward has done years of family research and is a wealth of information. My husband is also a great great grandson of Granderson. His great grandfather was Granderson's son Jacob. Jacob was killed in a mine explosion in Fratterville, TN. If you have any information about the history of Granderson Vowell, we would appreciate sharing. Thank you.

There is a guy in Harlan, name of Pete Vowell. He knows a pretty good lot about the town. He was my 7th and 8th grade English Teacher's husband. He lives somewhere around Loyall I think. You might find his number in the phone book. He seems to know alot about the history of the area and such. Goodluck!

THANKS...I believe that makes Edward and your husband my third or fourth (fifth) cousins? We are looking at traveling to the Harlan area in October or November. We have moved to the Raleigh area (just 30 miles east).
Cora Lee was my GG mother, Gertrude being Cora Lee's one of Cora Lee's daughters.

My father's brother died in Harlan around 1938?
