G' Morning again! (lol) After reading this post, it hit me that Berea would be perfect for you and your children. It is "small town", dry (which is important in this area) and has really good schools. My kids attend the Berea schools, and I have found that there is so many things for the kids to do thru the schools that there isn't enough time for it all! Berea is also known as the "crafts capitol of Kentucky" with loads of woodworking shops, quilt shops, local potteries, about any craft you can think of, there's a market for. There is also several festivals, including the Spoonbread and Crafts festivals. We have several large businesses, including tourism, government, and sales. With your fluency in German, you should have NO problem getting a job! Have you considered working for the fed. gov.? They are in need of interpreters, and there is a local army post right outside Berea. This just happens to be one of the few towns that I feel comfortable walking at night. I know many single parents that live/work in Berea, and wouldn't have it any other way. In fact, Richmond (just a few miles away) has a single-parent support group that is very active. They are constantly doing trips, cook-outs, and other fun stuff. If this is of interest, pm or email Suncoastman, he has researched Berea heavily. I can also help, as I live in the area. Here's some links that may help start your search:
Oh, yeah, Berea Community college is free! http://www.berea.com/ http://www.berea.edu/ http://www.kentuckyartisancenter.ky.gov/ http://www.city-data.com/city/Berea-Kentucky.html http://www.mcbrhomes.com/ Best of luck! ~joanna~ |

Hi again Petra!
Use the city-data website for a map. http://www.city-data.com/city/Berea-Kentucky.html Berea is south of Lexington, pretty much in the center of Ky. You can also google "map Berea, KY" and get driving directions right from your front door. |

Oh, yeah, make sure to search for the Bluegrass Army Depot, the army instillation I wrote about. I noticed in an earlier post you said your kids use another Fort for medical. I believe that you can switch that to here, plus we have the VA hospital in Lexington (about 30 miles away) which accepts all military patients.
