The City of Pikeville is pretty much smoke free except for private homes..Thanks to a very special group of teenagers who rallied support for the ban in public bldgs and grounds and took it to Town Council..They are petitioning the small town of Coal Run and Elkhorn City now..I love those ambitious and hard working teens
Smoking is banned on the hospital campus and all the buildings and properties they own. This makes it so much more pleasant to be out and about in an area where so many people do smoke.. |

When did Pikeville go smoke free? I knew that Paintsville went smoke free last year, but I didnt know Pikeville. The smoking ban for Paintsville was for restaurants only I believe. Also most people still smoke at the ballgames there. You will see more people smoking in public in Eastern Kentucky than anywhere else.

All the hospital properties went smoke free on January 1st..The buildings owned by the hospital have been smoke free for a lot of years. The State and Federal bldgs have been smoke free for a couple years , but the ban extended to so many feet around the bldg perimeter and all other public bldgs on November first when all public bldgs went smoke free..Public housing is smoke free within 50-100 feet of any entrance..But I think they are allowed smoking in their apts (not sure)..Very, very few restaurants even have smoking areas..They are closing down the smoking areas I think because it is inevitable that these kids will get that passed..I see lots of smoking everywhere in Ky, by the way, not just in one area...I was somewhere else in Ky last week and at every redlight it seems that the people in a lot of the cars were smoking..

So basically what you are saying is that smoking is banned in public buildings in Pikeville, however restaurants were exempted? Is that correct?

Smoking isn't anything compared to what your car is doing to our air. To prove it, I'll go smoke one cigarette after another for an hour in my closed garage. You go start your car and stand there and let it run for an hour in your closed garage...hope you live...LOL!
When these whiners quit driving, i'll quit smoking. Until then, STHU! |
