Kentucky roots and 20/20 show
Kentucky is one of the best states to be from for doing family research.
The 20/20 show made me sad because my parents were raised in coal
mining camps in Kentucky and Alabama, however, I feel people from the mountains are very strong. My grandparents didn't go beyond the
sixth or third grades because they had to work but I learned so much
from them. I learned more from them then what I was taught in
Ohio public schools.
Just wanted to comment.

Which coal mining camp did your family come from?
My father was born in Lynch where my grandfather worked in a mine for 35 years. I have a cousin that married a man who grew up in Fleming-Neon in Letcher County as well

They lived in Harlan County when they met. My dad's family mined in Etowah County, Alabama
before going to Harlan and my mom's in Knox County before going to Harlan. Once my parents
met they stayed in Kentucky for about year and then moved to Ohio. Ohioan's make fun of
people from Kentucky which is hurtful but I feel they don't appreciate that the people from the
Kentucky are who keep the country safe. I do know that our government knows it. Glad you
read my post. Tonibelle - that is what my dad called me.

I've never understood the love affair btw all things Cincinnati/ Ohio and Lexington. I think most Lexingtonians consider their city to be a suburb of Cincinnati based on all the Bengals and Ohio State shirts and bumper stickers you see everywhere.

It does not make total sense to me-75 miles is a bit far to be considered a suburb...
I can understand the Bengals and Reds affiliation though, but not the Ohio State...

Census it seems like Kentucky sports fans are very fickle, I don't remember seeing much as far as Indianapolis fans were concerned until they won the Super Bowl lol

Reds and Bengals fan here, but after that there is no love lost between me and folks from Ohio. From my experiences growing up near there and from the military service I have found that most Buckeyes are full of crap and totally disrespectful of Kentuckians. So, flame away if you must, but I have a thing against Ohioans.

My husband's from Ohio, and he's always been respectful of Kentucky. Every now and then he'll giggle about how I pronounce something, but I know he means no ill will. It just tickles him the way I draw out some words. It's all good.
