Native Chicagoan (City not the suburbs)
Jr High, High School, & College years in KY (Louisville & Lexington)
after that it was back to Chicago, then California and then to Ohio (Dayton) where I still am.
I never did pick up a southern accent and am not a real Kentuckian (family connections are to Chicago and beyond that to Poland and Germany), but lived there during some formative years in my life

The whole accent thing is really interesting. I've lived 90% of my life in Northern KY, Lexington, & Louisville and yet have a very strong rural KY accent. I only lived in Russel & Casey Counties from ages 4 to 11. My 4 siblings where all raised in Cincinnati, Dayton, & Ludlow KY and have that Cincinnati area accent
By comparison I know people who spent there first 20 years in some Eastern KY holler and yet have no noticeable accent.

Western Kentucky
Born in Fulton, KY. (Fulton County), right on the KY/TN line, parents moved around up north and finally moved back down south and settled in Hopkinsville, KY. (Christian County). I just love Western Kentucky and finally moved to a small, friendly town of Cadiz, KY. (Trigg County). Living around Lake Barkley & Kentucky Lake has been fantastic.

From the UK. Born in Yorkshire (Northern England), lived here most of my life apart from 3 years in Tewkesbury (Southern England) and three years living in Europe (Belgium). Yorkshire is lovely, a bit of everything (towns-some historic, beautiful countryside, cliffs and wild seas) and the people are also very friendly and down to earth. Found this site this week whilst researching your area as my son is coming over for a year very shortly so like to get to know the feel of a place. One thing I have found on this site is that despite sharing the same language I am finding some of the entries very difficult to understand. It is interesting reading peoples different views on the area however.
