Kentucky Speedway to get tax breaks with Cup race - NASCAR - Yahoo! Sports

By WILL GRAVES

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP)—Speedway Motorsports Inc. owner Bruton Smith plans to spend upward of $70 million to help Kentucky Speedway land a lucrative NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
The Kentucky state legislature is ready to help offset some of the cost, if Smith can finally end the track’s decade-long pursuit of a date on the crowded Cup calendar.
Lawmakers are working on an amendment to the Kentucky Tourism Development Act that would allow SMI to recoup 25 percent of the expansion costs over a 20-year period through sales tax revenue.
The proposal comes with a caveat: no Cup race, no tax break.

It's defiantly a track that provides a great race for the fans. It is such a multi groove track that it's racing is very similar to Daytona or Talledega other than the drafting part.

I think NASCAR should tell Pocono to either build a new track that provides exciting racing or lose both spots on the schedule - not to mention a lot of drivers have been injured at the awful turn 3.

Wonder how many times NASCAR has to tell them no? I think Tony Stewart will quit being an a**hole before they get a cup race in Kentucky. Hope I'm wrong on the race but I know the first part will never happen! lol

Umm, but if you haven't looked, NASCAR is struggling to fill seats at the tracks they currently have. KY will not get a cup race anytime soon. The economy is in the tank and so is spending on entertainment. Perhaps if the tickets weren't so expensive, they may sell more.
