In Lexington, the most pesky bugs we ever saw were:

cave crickets and earwigs - HATE these things but they don't hurt anybody.
fleas - afflict animals between July and late October
Oh my lord I'd rather a dang wasp then those stupid biting flies, those dadgum things will keep coming no matter how much you swat!

Ugh ugh ugh I hate cave crickets. I can deal with the regular ol' ones but those big fat alien looking things are gross and it's even worse when they get into your tub!

Wow! Thank you everyone! Yes, I think it was a red wasp that stung a dog at the place we were visiting.

Sounds like KY has a few pesky little critters we don't have, but nothing too scarey!! Can hardly wait to get there!!

There is a couple who I was friends with who take care of a small church cemetery. One day while on the riding mower, she accidentally ran over a ground hornet hole. Don't know if that's what you would call it but you know what I'm talking about. The bees immediately swarmed around her head and started stinging her. Her husband, hearing her screams over the weedeater, ran over and started swatting at them with his cap. She said the bee stings were bad enough, but when that little hard button on the top of his cap started banging down on her already tender scalp, she said she was about to tell him to stop, that the bees were doing enough damage. She was able to joke about it after being in the hospital for a week from the poison af about 50+ stings.

I've never know a muddauber/dirtdauber to string people ... I'm around them all the time working on houses and in the barn.

They are your friend they collect spiders and feed them to their larva. It you ever knock a dirtdauber house open it'll be full of paralyzed spiders and the larva.

Now that I think about it, I have seen wasps nest in the ground, we had to kill them at the zoo.

You are all reminding me of 'other bugs' and 'pests' not thought of in a while!!

Here on the west coast .... we also have 'slugs' (mostly on the west side of the rocies from us and on the coast. Do you have them the there too? Pesky, slimy little critters favoring wet climates!! (ie Seattle wet weather).
