I personally would really like for him to step aside. His comments about Ginsberg's possible death showed someone who is becoming senile

Do you think he should step aside so a new Republican can run?

I'm sure it will be long forgotten by then. It was a really dumb comment.

Aren't you a Democrat? You probably want him to run so Mongiardo will win

I just can't help but to wonder why he would say such a thing. We all say dumb things in our life but that one was just....

I'm a Democrat, but I vote for whoever is best. That said, Bunning is becoming more of a liability than a credit to KY. He made several gaffes in 2004 that nearly cost him the election there, even though he was going against a (then) completely unknown Democrat.

Deep down, I don't think he's going senile. I think he's already there. And that's a shame. He's done so much good, not only for the entire state, but for his Congressional District as well (yes, he was my congressman before he was elected to the Senate).

He should step aside before he does more harm to his good name.

I think he'll be an ass about it again next election and run for reelection. That means Mongiardo will most likely get the job.

Much worse could be elected. I think his comments about Ginsberg were taken out of context, not that they weren't insensitive. I think he merely meant that the type of cancer she has is usually terminal and it is.

Bunning says he might sue if GOP backs another - Nation - Wire - Kentucky.com (http://www.kentucky.com/513/story/705958.html - broken link)
Pretty bad when your own party isn't sure if they want to support you and you have to sue for support!

I lost all respect for Bunning during the 2004 campaign when he said Mongiardo looked like one of Saddam Hussein's sons. I'm surprised that at his age he can still put his foot in his mouth so deftly.

Yes, but will the next ten dumb things he says in the meantime be forgotten? It's a steady drip, drip, drip with him.

In any case, it's clear he's become a national joke, justified or not. And that's not good for Kentucky. Either Trey Greyson (R) or Jack Conway (D) would be a huge improvement over Bunning.
