Sorry people, technically Diane Sawyer is from Glasgow, KY. But her formative years (and attitude/personality) are from Louisville.

My mistake, sorry!

Here's a great radio station located in Whitesburg, Ky. Good music, interesting news, and real people. I'd smoke some with them anyday! It's people that want to preserve their authentic culture, improve living conditions and protect their environment.

Glasgow won't even claim her...lol. I think Ms. Sawyer has "gotten above her raisin" which is what my grandmother used to say about people who try to act like they didn't come from someplace. I have never cared for Dianne Sawyer since I saw her on a cooking segment with Emeril Lagasse on GMA and she pretended to not know what country ham was. Who, raised in Kentucky does not know what country ham is?

It came off so fake if you were raised in Kentucky and knew that was where she was from. Country ham, whether she likes it or not, is a Kentucky product for goodness sake.

1. excuse me for my missspellings,I`m not an american ...
2. Youīre proud folks ... you flood every discussion about this ABC- Stuff with comments speak it out, that youīre offended and deeply injured in your hearts.
I like the mountaineers mind - everywhere in the world. But they always have an inferiority complex, in my hometown as well ...
Diane Sawyer for example said that ONE IN TEN is toothless, she didnīt generalize ... what you claim
Some Kentuckyans admit the big problem with poverty on many backroads and down the hollers, the big problem with drug abuse (in my rural town in germany thereīs statistically also more drug abuse than in big towns, and itīs a not very poor area in bavaria) and the difficoulties within the school and laborsystem. Why donīt you want to hear, what is going on in some pockets and many households of your county?
These grounds full of litter in front of damaged trailers shows us nothing than poverty, the heating costs in this mobile homes are high, the opportunities to work not too far from home are little ...
The other problems are linked with it in the famous vicious circle of poverty ...
3. Iīm a german and I donīt think, that most of Kentuckians are poor, drug addicts and soda junkies. But In fact I wonder how big the differences in mentality and thinking is in america between silent and somewhere poor rural areas and busy and noisy cities.
You show everywhere the stars and stripes as an expression of your proudness for your UNITED nation and you talk about the american spirit, but in many respects the different folks in the U.S. are divided in their minds ... aren they?
In general the american style of TV- reports is lively, but superficial ... BBC, TV5 or Arte make better stuff, they let the interviewed people speak more, give you more background knowledge and try to identify more with the minds of the subjects in their reports. Al- Jazeera in English tries to copy this high quality ...
Thereīs for example a good BBC- Documentation about the inner city crime in Philadelphia

Boy does that ever hit home, ("gotten above her raisin"), some sure forget real quick like just were they came from and start puttin on the dog for folks, stab their family, friends in the back in a minute their whole life revolves around money and social status, wont dare bring up their roots.
Some want to put down the backwoods and poor while they prance around with their uppity attitudes and fake lives, I didnt come from Kentucky but purty close just one state down and Ill take country folk any day over the pretentious or shall I just say highfalutin.

Point taken, the biggest problem with American TV or what some call "mainstream media" is their failure to be non-bias and objective in their reporting. Most media in this country has a agenda, and part of that agenda is to tell you what they want your to know and not always what you need to know.
American TV is highly slanted and elitist.

haha no problem, german isnīt the leading tongue of the world, an old german myth says that English only overruled German by one vote (I donīt know if thatīs right)
In Germany itīs the same, but here they try to manipulate your mind with their pseudo- objective style . In general single cases are given to point out general issues.
American reports are more based on show and emotions. In general single cases are payed more attention.
In my opinion BBC- reports are more useful than german or american reports
But I mistrust all media of the big corporations and the news agencies - In foreign politics German papers and TV are like dogs of the american and british media networks and agencies. This is just the truth ...
