Default KY Gas Tax Freeze to cost you more.

our illustrious Governor wants to freeze the gas tax as it's slated to fall do to the lower gas prices, they had no problem raising them when the price when up and now they want to keep them high all in the name of a budget stortfall to do their poor money management.

I encourage you to contact your Representative to not allow the freeze and let the tax fall. They blamed the increase when gas prices were high as a "automatic" increase will let's have out "automatic" decrease.

Write them call them go to their office .. aren't we paying enough taxes already? Be involved.

It is around a 4 cent per gallon difference. It will cost you 60 cents for a typical 15 gallon tank. (My 10 gallon tank will cost a mere 40 cents) And tell me, do you really think that gas stations will pass any savings to you anyway? That is naive to believe at best...

With all the road projects Kentucky needs this only makes sense. We're so far backlogged on important projects that if this doesn't happen then our infrastructure will simply keep falling behind. In Louisville, for instance, this money will allow the state to start widening I-64 east of the Snyder as well as several sound barriers for people living along the Watterson.

Why is 60 cents such a big deal?

Tell you what Jake if you want to pay more taxes, then by all means send the state a check.

My truck has a 42 gallon tank. I drive a lot for work and go through 2 tanks a week or more that's at minimum 80 gallons a week, so while that's only 3.20 a week and around $166.40 a year I'd rather have in my pocket.

Beside Little Stevie going to take our Federal Tax dollar bailout money to improve infrastructure, so why do they need more of out money simply because their not fiscally responsible?

There is a old saying, poor planning on your part does not constitute a emergency on mine.

I can understand the freeze in this deteriorating economy - the problem is taxes never go back down after the economy rebounds

The state claims that this will give them $130 million dollars more a year ... that's $130 million the private sector desperately needs. Businesses are closing , people a getting laid off and both the federal and state government think higher taxes are a good idea. They seem to have no idea how the economy works.

I am surprised you really believe that gas stations are going to pass the 4 cents savings on to you. I guess if you actually think the're going to, then whatever.

wku_85 is on a distinguished road
The bailout money is only going to fund a handful of projects because states are required to spend that money on projects that will produce immediate jobs. The gas tax is needed to fund ongoing maintenance.

If you live in Western Ky, then you may have noticed that there's not a lot of work going on to maintain the roads right now because every man they've got is still clearing up trees from the ice storm. FEMA is only paying for a portion of that.

We've got a lot of problems with the roads around here, and as a user of the roads, I should be expected to pay for its upkeep.

Keep the tax. Fix the roads.

They were fixing the roads in WK before the ice storm? Funny, I never saw any roads being repaired. You would think the Jackson Purchase was located on the moon the way the state treats us. "The Triangle...the rest of you can go to hell." -State of KY-
