My family is all mostly from the Owensboro area and it's take on southern style BBQ is very unique. The area is famous for it's Hickory Smoked Mutton and Pork on Toast....it's really unique to this area of Western Kentucky

Bar-b-que served on toast???? Have never heard of or seen that here in Western Kentucky, thank goodness! Ate bar-b-que one time in Owensboro but there was a great BBQ place in Sullivan, Ky., just out of Sturgis, that had the best I had ever tasted. But in all the places I've eaten BBQ, thankfully I have never seen it served on toast!

The BEST carry out BBQ in all of Owensboro ( and I can't believe all the O'boro natives here haven't already mentioned it ) used to be old "Shady Rest BBQ" out on Highway 60 just east of Owensboro out near the old power plant. It has sadly closed down but I used to stop in their with my grandparents and get a bowl of burgoo and a sliced mutton sandwich with pickles and a slice of onions.....just the way I like it.

I think Moonlite is excellent, just over priced. But all those desserts....you can't beat all of those cakes and pies and desserts at Moonlite, besides the Burgoo, Mutton and Pork is very good. Old Hickory is also very good but I haven't eaten there in ages.

THE BEST BBQ IN ALL of Daviess, Hancock, Ohio and Henderson counties are 2 church parishes that hold summer "picnics" in western Kentucky.

They are:

St Mary's Of The Woods - Whitesville Kentucky
St Lawrence - Knottsville Kentucky

All the rest just falls short ( except maybe St Geromes out in Rome Kentucky...
