Default Were the US to break up into four countries (S, W, Midwest and NE), which would Kentucky join?

Would Kentucky first join a Confederate Union or a Midwestern Union?

I think Covington/northern Kentucky in such a situation would cede to Ohio for economic reasons, or else many jobs commuting into Cincinnati would be lost.

Well they didn't join the Confeds, so maybe the Midwest or East. They're culturally southern though.

You do not know history obviously. While Kentucky was a Border State during the American Civil War, we have never been anything but a border state. That is the beauty of Kentucky. We don't fit the mold and we have the strength and courage to stand for what we believe rather than fall for either the right, left, upper, or lower's crap-o-la.

I don't know, it's hard to say since most of us consider ourselves Southern.

Well, we "joined" the Confederacy after they lost the Civil War. And if you look at recent voting patterns in national elections, I don't think there is much doubt we go with the south.

Which history book did you read? I guess I missed where Kentucky joined the Confederacy... You must remember that most of Kentucky east of Lexington, Louisville and NKY were Union areas.

While KY was a boarder state during the Civil War, Western KY (primarily the Jackson Purchase) strongly considered seceding from the Commonwealth and joining the south as there economy was more closely tied to the confederate south.
So while central tracks of KY was a "boarder state" do to various political reasons and is government in fighting, the western end of the state was very staunchly southern, as was the mountains of eastern KY due to it proximity to Virginia and the large numbers of mountain settlers where from either VA or NC.

There was a political battles in KY between the Union supporting members of state government and the confederate underground within the government.

I could go on but you get the point.

I'm sure this topic is the result of a Russian politicians prediction that the US would split into 4 countries and he had KY and TN in with New England, clearly the man knows nothing about this country.

Here is his map ..

I watched a show about Lincoln on PBS and the Union after the war was very much disrespected by Kentuckians after the war. Apparently Kentucky joined the union thinking slavery would be left intact if they did, and when slaves were being used in the union army, even the Governor said"Either you get them out of our army, or I will". After that, Kentucky distrusted the union and essentially joined the Confederacy and voted in Confederate to office. That is why the vast majority of Union monuments are Confederate.

Not only Kentucky and Tennesee but BOTH Carolinas! South Carolina I am sure would rather fall into the ocean than become part of New England!

Acctually, eastern Kentucky must not have been all that pro-confederate..... The courthouse in Harlan County was burned by the people in Lee County, Virginia after the Lee County courthouse was burned by Harlan Countians.
