Smile Marshall County

We are from Chicago. We visit the area every couple of months because we like it there. We find peace and quiet there. We have been going to that area now for over 6 years and for now, really have no interest in going anywhere else. We visit Benton, Murray, Cadiz and sometimes drive to Paris. We only go to Paducah for alcohol. We do like Paducah and feel it has a lot to offer. Good music, shows, restaurants, etc. but we can see that any day where we live. Everyone we have met in the Marshall County area has been friendly and warm. We enjoy Belews, The Brass Lantern, The Dinner Bell. We drive all over the area looking in antique stores. From what I hear, Grand Rivers is becoming the next Branson. LBL is wonderful. Wish they would bring back the train rides - they stopped that when we started coming there.

There is not a lot of big stores around. Walmart is it. And that's OK with me. Now they have Chicago style hotdogs and fudge on 68 which I will have to stop by and try out. I do wish someone would try to sell Chicago Style pizza. Also wish the county wasn't dry.

As far as the comment on Bentonbeing only white, that is about it. I kid you not, I have been in conversations where someone says "Guess what i saw at wal Mart last week...a black person!" The schools are terrible. Again, if you don't make lots of money and have the right freinds your children will be looked down upon. It has it's up sides, but not enough to outweigh the bad. I have been on the east coast for almost a year now, and as long as I have a choice I will never go back to Benton.
