Can anyone tell me about Wickliffe?
I'm attracted by the meeting of the rivers and wondered if there is perhaps some elevated land maybe north of Wickliffe where I could have some property with a view of the three states and the junction of the Ohio and Mississippi? Any description of places around Ballard County with river views would help. I can't tell much from the topo maps. I don't have to worry about work or schools, as that's all behind me. So just me and my dog and a little property would be nice. Thanks.

Wish I could help you, but I've never been to Wickliffe.

North of Wickliffe is the Ohio River and then Cairo IL. The riverfront land is mainly in a flood plain and not elevated. Most of it is undeveloped, and will remain that way. The exception being for large corporations who need to be located on the river for whatever reason, and have the resources to alleviate the flooding issue.
The only place I know to view all 3 states, is Ft. Defiance Park, in Cairo. It sits on the "point" between the 2 rivers. It's not elevated though.
If you want elevated river views in this region, look to Livingston County in KY, and Hardin and Pope County in IL. All these locations are off the beaten path, and will require driving an indirect route to get anywhere.

Thanks, BLS. Kind of what I thought. I very much appreciate your helpful response and the suggestions. I have been to Cairo, but it is flat, as you say, and at river level.

If you have never been to Wycliffe you will certainly be in for a bad surprise on your arrival. The town smells like rotten cabbage because of the paper mill.

Wow! The worst smell I know. Had it up north driving through Canada. Definitely want to stay up wind of that. Thanks for the info.
It does look like there is higher ground on County Farm Road north of Wickliffe that should have river views. Looking at a more detailed topo map, I see that the elevation there appears to be about 100 feet above the flat river flood plain below, which is wildlife refuge and other protected land.
