A dinner train with boarding at Lexington Center and an excursion train between Lexington and Louisville could be in operation as early as next year, with the potential for passenger service between the two cities later.
Read what the article says.

First, there is the dinner train. A trip of about 3 hours max for dinner. That would take you to Frankfort with maybe a stop in Midway, then return.

Second, there is an excursion trip to Louisville of approximately 5-6 hours. That sounds like a day trip to the big city. Way too long for dinner. Who wants to have a 10-12 hour dinner trip?

Third, there is a POTENTIAL for passenger service to Louisville, later. The current lease that Corman has with the C&O Railroad prohibits any passenger revenue service between the two cities. That is the reason that they did not sell tickets for the steam train run last year.

I can certainly see this as a very good thing, but they are taking baby steps for now.

Thank you Mr Corman for thinking about us.

I've always wondered why the Versailles dinner train never goes past the Kentucky River bridge to Lawrenceburg (this is the RR bridge next to Wild Turkey distillery) - if the bridge is unstable why not just take it down? According to Google Maps that rail line goes all the way into Downtown Louisville area as well.
