My girlfriend is really into equestrian (hunter jumper) and I would like to take her to one of the big horse shows (not racing) for a graduation present. I remember her telling me about one either in Tennessee or Kentucky (said she has always wanted to go since she was a kid) but I can’t remember what it was called. It was a pretty big one, but it was not the FEI World Equestrian Games (I have looked into that one). Does anyone have any ideas of a few neat places to take a horse lover in Kentucky? From NC here so I am not to keen on what KY has to offer. I really appreciate the help!

Kentucky Horse Park, maybe. The address is 4089 Iron Works Parkway in Lexington. The website is kyhorsepark.com.

I don't know that you can find any horse-related stuff in Kentucky which isn't related to racing. It's not the cutting horse, work horse or show horse capitol of the world; it's race horses.

But, be that as it may, take her to Keeneland race track, just across the highway from the Lexington airport. It's open to tourists daily, even when they're not racing. You can get a nice breakfast at the employee restauarant way in the back, walk around the barns and go into the grandstands and watch them exercise the horses out on the track. You can get up close and personal with the horses and exercise jockeys.

Rolex is a 3-day event but it takes place in the spring is the big horse show she's talking about it's the only four star in the USA. The Kentucky horse park is great they have lots of things to do and see.

Acutually I just went the the site and the World Equestrian Games "WEG" will be held there in 2010 if you can wait.

The Arabian horse show is great fun, if you get a chance to go to that.

There are several horse farm tour companies. I believe visitlex.com has some of them listed. I've taken several out of town visitors on tours and they have all loved them.
