Default Fish & Game stocking Alligator Gar in Western KY

YouTube - Kentucky's Alligator Gar

I can't find out specific waterways where they will be stocked - those things can get 12 feet long.

The bad thing about Gar is that if you put your stringer of fish in the water the Gar will eat them. So if they are in the area you are fishin in you really have to be alert!

I'm guessing they're doing it for added out of state license revenues - Texas has a very lucrative gar fishing tour economy targeted toward out of staters. There are no major gator gar fisheries this far east, so it could be a big draw.

They should consider raising and releasing Spoonebills like the State of Mississippi is doing the Spoonebill/Paddlefish caviar business is very lucrative. The roe sells for about $30-$50 oz or in bulk at $500 pound. I was just at the northern MS Fist hatchery were they were raising some 80,000 spoonebills every few months.

Gar fishing is fun and they're not worth eating, but I think the state is dropping the ball on aquaculture, that could produce a lot a revenue for the state and communities.

EDIT: There still is a Alligator Gar in Far western KY albeit few, so yes they could stand to repopulate them here.
