I had a friend in college that grew up in La Grange. I visited his house a few times and to me, the town was very nice. It seemed like a normal small KY town with friendly people. I'm sure someone else that knows more about the area can tell you more.

La Grange is the biggest and most "separate" from Louisville. It has much of the typical chain shopping and a few restuarants, and its own mini downtown. All are nice. The rest of the towns are Louisville suburbia, with not much but subdivisions. La Grange is Louisville "exurbia." The entire county is nice if suburbia, exurbia, or an exurban/rural mix is your thing.
