Default Safest rural area in Kentucky?

Let me re-phrase.... we are wondering if the area between Louisville and Fort Knox (rural/smaller towns up to Radcliff) is a safe area? I know there are alot of run-down houses along the highway but have ventured into the smaller communities and seen some not too bad housing. Does anyone know what the crime rate is or what it's actually like to live in the area? We may be relocating but can't be too far from the International airport. Our county here is virtually crime-free so I'm wondering what the difference is. I know we will not find another area like the one we live in now, but don't want to end up living in a high crime area.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

There is virtually no crime in rural KY. I wouldn't worry. Radcliff is a nice growing area although a little "southern" for my tastes. If you prefer more Midwestern type suburbia, try the east side of Louisille. The crime in the city of Louisville isn't too bad as major cities go, but it is still a city and will have crime. Most crime in rural KY is domestic or related to methamphetamine, which is prominent where you come from as well.

Thanks for the info!! That's VERY helpful!! Our problem is that we need to be able to access the Fort Knox base as well as being close enough for a daily drive to and from the International airport, which is why we'd need to be between the two but I refuse to move back to a major city. Country living has changed me in that sense. As for the Southern aspect...not a problem for us. My husband is from the very south of Texas so the more southern the better. He's done his 'dues' up North and is extremely anxious to be back in his feel good place....me, being born and raised up North...I really don't care either way.

Thank you again. I appreciate your input MORE than you know!!

Ok, two more options beides Radcliff are Valley Station in SW Jefferson County (Louisville) where there is plenty of country land left. Also, Shepherdsville and Mount Washington in Bullitt County are great small towns about 15 minutes from the airport. These areas are all fast growing as exurbs/bedroom communities for Louisville.

Elizabethtown sounds like the very answer to your prayers! It is large enough and close enough to be convenient for shopping/hospitals, etc., without being too much of a good thing. Do you know what I mean? E-town is still very much an hospitable southern town at heart.
