I just hooked the tv in my bedroom up with a digital converter box (which is free with the gov't coupon) and I can get 12 crystal clear channels here in Lexington - that is 5 more than were available on the old analog signal. There are 4 KET channels (2 not available on cable) and 2 full time local weather and or news channels, also not on cable.
Here is a list of what I get (by frequency)
18.1 - NBC / WLEX
27.1 - CBS / WKYT
27.2 - a WKYT auxilary station with additional programing
27.3 - a 24/7 local weather radar from WKYT
36.1 - ABC / WTVQ
36.2 - a WTVQ auxilary station with additional programing
36.3 - WTVQ's 24/7 local news headline & weather info station
46.1 - KET 1
46.2 - KET 2
46.3 - KET 3
46.4 - KET 4
56.1 - FOX / WDKY

I don't know but those two additional channel usually have either reruns of regular shows like Kentucky Life or music programs, especially Bluegrass Music. There was a good documentary last night about Dr Ralph Stanley.
Based on the close frequencies I'm guessing you can put out several different signals from the same antenna. This would be cheaper than having to space out signal frequencies from a separate antenna

What are those Cincy weather channels like?
Here in Lex the one for 27 is just a radar screen 24/7 while 36's has the actual temp, humidity, and forecast on the side and bottom with news headlines and a recap of the forecast on the main screen. National headlines are scrolled at the bottom
Well, I spoke too soon about having Dish. A salesman came by and we now have cable, phone (unlimited long distance), and internet through Mediacom for $100/month less than what we're paying for all 3 seperate now. Supposed to hook cable up before the weekend. Main channel I'll miss is D.I.Y Network

The weather channels for both 5 and 9 have the localized current temps and conditions on the left column with a localized extended forecast on the bottom. Ch. 9's has pictures of individual cities (i.e.: Cincinnati, Indepedence, Covington, etc.) and news headlines scrolling across the very bottom; Ch. 5's has travel forecasts for Dayton, Indy, Lex., Louisville, etc.
