Monkey's Eyebrow
Discovered this little place in Ballard County called Monkey's Eyebrow. On certain maps if you look at the river as a face in profile, with lakes as eyes, etc., this place is in the right place for an eyebrow. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this community or its history. Love these creative names! Thanks. Any comments welcome.

I've been through Possum Trot many times but never made it to Monkey's Eyebrow. I looked it up for you.

Thanks, kygman. Great link. Don't know why it didn't come up when I searched, but thanks for posting. I've been to Paint Lick, but have yet to vacation in lovely downtown Possum Trot!

If you remember Doc Severinson on Johnny Carson, he performed several times in Paducah. I went to a couple of his outdoor concerts at Paducah Tilghman's football field. For about a week before his show, Johnny would ask him where in the world Paducah, Ky. was. Doc told him it was halfway between Possum Trot and Monkey's Eyebrow. lol

Johnny Carson--Boy, that takes me back. Sounds familiar now that you mention it. Do you happen to remember where the Beverly Hillbillies were supposed to be from? I always thought West Virginia, but someone said Tennessee, and Bug Tussle was one of the names used.

I think they were the Ozarks. I was in Branson about 15 years ago and there is a small college near there, School of the Ozarks. They had the original Beverly Hillbilly's truck in their museum.

In the Beverly Hillbillies sitcom, they never specifically said which state the Clampetts hailed from. They did say Granny originally came from Tennessee. Several of the towns they mention in the show are names of towns in Missouri and Arkansas...Branson and Joplin being two of them.

There is also a cute liitle hamlet called Pumpkin Corner just southeast of Paducah. My nickname for my wife is Pumpkin, so we had to stop there when we were driving to Florida for our honeymoon!

You're right, dixie. I remember one episode where Granny talked about all the men who came "sparkin'" her. She said there was so much sparkin' going on around her neck of the woods, they started calling it the Smoky Mountains. lol
