Here are a couple of links that may help you. The first one is from This Old House Magazine which rated Covington highly for buying an old home!

Covington? Well, I work there. A few parts of town are nice, but literally 70% of the city is grimy. Quite a high concentration of Section 8, welfare, white trash, thug, illegal immigrant, and homeless type folks live there. Not nearly as bad as the worst areas of Cincinnati, but I never stop at a convenience store there at night.

Mainstrasse is a hip bar district, and safe as long as you're within a block of it. The Central Business District has some nice bars and expensive condos, and Licking Riverside is full of grand old homes owned by some rather wealthy individuals. West Covington around Devou Park and out along Highway Avenue toward Ludlow is very nice, as well as the southside's suburban developments along KY 17 and Taylor Mill Road.

Sadly, even traditionally nice neighborhoods in southcentral Covington (according to locals, anyway, I moved to N. KY not too long ago) such as Peaselburg, Wallace Woods and Latonia are going downhill. Apparently Covington still hasn't caught on to the concept of gentrification like many other American urban districts.

But...Covington has a lot of work to do b/c of its tremendous social problems. At least it has cool architecture. Why are you interested, if I may ask?
