Missy, first and foremost the only thing I did was call out one poster who I questioned. That is it. Is there a law stating that one can not question another person's post on this forum? Im sorry lady but it gets my dander when someone from the north comes on here and embellishes our accents or our way of life. Have you ever in your life heard one say the word light in two sylables??? Im sorry but I have NEVER heard that. thats what got me started. What really lit my fuse was when someone like you, someone who should be welcoming people onto this forum got on here and tells me that my opinion doesnt matter.... Lady that was downright rude and uncalled for. Go sip your sweet tea and sit around on your front porch with your big soutehrn dress carrying your unbrella and attempt to talk like a georgia peach. Because until you move from Kentucky, thats as close to being a southerner you are going to be. I will post and respond to every single post you post on this topic. You were rude and you needed to be called out thank you for taking time out of your busy quest for tru southern status to read a little peon like mine's post I mean afterall....I really dont count anyways right? I bet you are a republican too arent you? lmao The arrogance gave it away sweetheart

I'm truly sorry I caused all this hubbub with the way I perceived light and right to be said in Prestonsburg KY. BUT I was NOT embellishing, and while it might have SEEMED to you that I made it into 2 syllables, it's just how the word was stretched and said. I stand behind what I posted, and if my Pops, who is from the Prestonsburg area was a computer guru I'm sure he'd come on here and verify what I was saying. I was NOT bashing the accent, I LOVE the accent.
Missy thank you for pointing out that the one who called me a weirdo has only lived in KY for 10 years. I only lived there for 3 1/2, but I don't try to come off as a native Kentuckian.

I agree with Jamie. Arrogant and hateful is what I see when I read this thread. You should really be more friendly if you really and truely are southern

I am talking about Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia. Have you heard the accents there? I just moved from just outside of Biloxi. My dear I can assure you, Kentucky is by no stretch a southern state. Good day and God bless.

I have family in Mississippi and Louisiana...some right up the highway from you in Hattiesburg, MS. You don't get much farther south than that and their accent is very much like ours in southern Kentucky. Actually, there is very little difference in there and southern Kentucky. Louisiana has a little different accent, but not enough that my Kentucky accent stands out there as "not southern". You mention Tennessee, so I guess you don't think that is the south either. Kentucky and Tennessee are very similar, but there are some differences that anyone that is a native would know. Both are southern states both culturally and otherwise.

I understand exactly what you are saying about the Eastern Kentucky accent. They do draw out the "I" in words unlike the rest of the state. The accent over there is unique in that way.

Actually in your post to me you posted that you were tired of people coming to Kentucky and embellishing your accents or way of life.

The only reason I got upset with you was you calling me a weirdo. Simple as that.
The reason I posted I only live in Kentucky 3 1/2 years is to prove that I KNOW don't know everything about Kentucky. Simple as that.
But I do know how people talk in the Presonsburg area no matter what you say. Simple as that.

I live in the "real" south, I live in southern Kentucky. I just explained at length that I have family all over the deep south and I have spent considerable time there. I also have a sister in Georgia and have been all over that area. If you want to get into what is more southern, the east coast of the southeastern part of the US, Savannah, Ga, and parts of the Carolinas are actually more southerrn in feel than Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, but it is all the south.
