I am definetly not saying that there arent some thick accents in the state. But as a whole, the state sounds nothing like that. As bad as I hate to bust your bubble, Eastern Kentucky is not filled with imbred morons, heck we even have running water and electricity. Some even go off to college and earn degrees to do great things with their lives. And dont go saying "Oh I love the accent". I may take too much offence to it, but when someone starts acting like we talk so much differently than the rest of the country it offends me greatly. I have lived amongst one of the so called poorest counties in the state and I can assure you my dear friend, it is not nearly as bad as one might think. If I came off as hateful, I am sorry. But I stand up for what I believe in. And when I saw your post it just got all over my skin that someone would come and embelish the acents. EVERYONE in Prestonsburg does NOT talk like that. I have been there many times and lived in Harlan for a decade. I grew up there and have great family roots there. So Missy before you go blasting me for being from Michigan, Yeah I am but big deaL? I love this state and I cant stand for someone to go and talk smack about something they cant back up. Good day and goodluck to the both of you.

Did I say EVERYBODY in Prestonsburg talks like that? Did I call everybody in Eastern Kentucky "inbred morons"? Heck, did I say ANYBODY in Kentucky ANYWHEREE were inbred morons? THIS IS WHAT I SAID:

My "Pops" is from Kentucky. A wonderful man like a dad to me.
I sure miss Kentucky!

This is exactly how the guy said it, but not so pronounced as 2 syllables just kinda stretched, but the only way with words I can explain it. Maybe this guy wasn't really from Prestonsburg. Who knows. But my Pops talks very similar, and except for 3 years in Vietnam, he's lived in the area all his life.
I'm truly sorry you were offended my how I portrayed the accent. And maybe if you hadn't asked if I visited a carecenter or hadn't called me a weirdo this conversation wouldn't be happening. But you did and I got pissed off.
I will say I like Kentucky's accent's and if you take offence that will be your problem that you see it as an insult, not the compliment that I see it as.
No I don't think my opinion is the only one that counts. Just know what I heard, and yeah since I am "from the North" it's a bigger difference to me than maybe somebody who has lived there for years.
Either way, it's how I heard it, it wasn't meant as an insult, and no way no how NEVER have I EVER said people from Kentucky are inbreds or morons.
