Bowling Green?
Hello all,
I am a black woman with a white husband and we are looking to move into the Bowling Green area of Kentucky. We have two beautiful mixed daughters. Both will be starting 1st grade this year. We are originally form Massachusetts.
My major concerns are the amount of racism in KY and the schools. Are the schools any good? Will the neighborhood we choose to live in be safe for me and my family? ( as in KKK ralleys, cross-burning in my front yard, hearing the n word being directed at me, getting stares from the natives, etc.) I don't want my children to be exposed to that behavior.
Thank you.

You'll get stares from older folks perhaps, but no one will place a burning cross on your lawn.
I spent a decade in Kentucky and never saw or heard about any "KKK ralleys[sic]."
I would say that you would be more likely to hear racial slurs from blacks in Louisville than from whites anywhere in the state. Kentucky whites might say that kind of thing behind closed doors, mind you, but I doubt anyone in Bowling Green would say anything directly to you or your issue.
If you are concerned about your children's growth, you might want to also work to remove your biased assumptions. Just a friendly suggestion.

You will not encounter any of that in Bowling Green, I can promise you that. Though you may get some stares from some older folks, but even that will be extremely rare.
I hope you are just exaggerating and are not seriously expecting to experience those kinds of things in Bowling Green.

Are you being serious or are you trying to work up the locals on this board? No, KKK and cross burnings will not happen. Any negativity you get will likely be subtle from either older folks or some good ol' boys. I'm not going to tell you that BG would be an easy place for a mixed race couple to assimilate but I would be really surprised if you had any overt racism directed towards you.

I really don't believe this post is one of real concern, but one to just stir up some controversy. If it is real, may I ask why you think any of this would happen in Bowling Green anymore than anyplace else?

Well, I heard that the people are very racist down there. So I was just asking.

Go look at that person's profile and look at all the post they have made and you will find the answer to your question. This person came to the Georgia forum and described a scenario of hate crimes that supposedly happened to them from just VISITING a GA town......and I havent even heard the n-word from a white person down here and I've been in and out of rural Alabama and GA towns all of my life, and I'm black.

The Georgia moderator closed down a thread by this same OP making up an outlandish tale of racism in a Georgia town she visited. A troll is in your midst.
