Looking to possible move to Kentucky from Northern Michigan after retirement. I am looking for a small town that is close enough to grocery stores, but we would like to be on lake. Anybody have any advice - we are thinking maybe Cadiz or am open to other suggestions. Weather is a factor for us - we have lived in snow for way to long and would like normal seasons! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also anybody now what the average property tax is?

Check out Glasgow or even smaller, Scottsville, Ky. Both have lakefront property available and are close to a larger city for more amenities. Property tax depends on what county your property is in.

Sure! Come on down to Cadiz! Lake Barkley is 10 miles from town but that's for the main lake. There are plenty of places to can find that are on the water and your not that far from town. We have 2 groceries in town, both good ones. We'll get snow here but nothing like what you're used to. And here's where you can check the property taxes. http://revenue.ky.gov/taxpro/CountyI...on/triggco.htm
It's not on the lake, but we're buying (on contract) a 3 br 2 bath home on an acre, about a mile or so from town, for $72,000.

After I posted that I found a couple other sites where you can get some info on Cadiz.
http://www.city-data.com/city/Cadiz-Kentucky.html
Can't forget to mention the Country Ham Festival in October. The web site says "Our fair city expands from about 4,000 residents to 80,000 or more excited people during the Ham Festival!"
Home of the Trigg County Country Ham Festival in Cadiz, Trigg County, Kentucky. The best country hams in the world are produced here in Cadiz and Trigg County.

The Murray area is consistently mentioned as a top ten place to retire in magazines. Land Between the Lakes is a beautiful area.

I'm close to Murray. Kentucky Lake is a few minutes away, as well as Lake Barkley. Everyone must move to Murray, I have a Red Hat group of 15, and only two are originally from here. Plenty of property close to the lakes, tons of resturants in Murray, golf courses, several retirement communities, local playhouse, pretty low crime, easy to find a club for whatever you are interested in (photography, cooking, craft, geneology, etc.). Gosh, if I wasn't here already, I'd move here.

Default KY Lake

Does anyone know about the special deals on property at Western Shores??

Is it a nice area?? The prices seem so low they seem too good to be true..

Nice comment -- actually made me laugh out loud! It's great to see someone who loves where they live. And you are correct; that area is just gorgeous.
