Default Need restaurants ideas for trip in May

Good morning everyone!!! We will be visiting Lexington on one of our days in KY and we will staying in Louisville. Can anyone give us a great place to eat in Lexington and some ideas for Louisville. We will be staying near downtown in Louisville. It does not matter where...we will drive whereever. In Lexington we want a real comfort food, home cooking kind of place. Something that really shows the food of Kentucky. Thank you so much.

For traditional southern fare it would be hard to beat Merrick Inn (Tates Creek Rd right inside of New Circle Rd). It is a bit upscale but not overly expensive. They serve fabulous southern side dishes with dinner. If you want more of a down home hole in the wall type of place you might try Ramsey's (corner of Woodland and High St's).
A.P. Suggins (Romany Rd) also serves good comfort food.
A couple of dishes indigenous to this area are beer cheese and fried bannana peppers. You will find both on most menus.

Yes, I agree with Lexingtongal that those are probably your best bets for "KY food". My only other suggestions would be Hall's on the River (a drive outside of Lexington but very scenic with a patio in the woods above the KY river), and deSha's (more of an upscale, bluegrass historic tavern feel, they feature a lot of classic KY fare with a wide variety of bourbons. Also a good place to people-watch after any horse events in the area).

For a healthier option, check out Alfalfa's on Main St. They feature a lot of healthy, vegetarian and international foods with a southern twist. They use locally grown produce and draw an eclectic crowd. Their breakfast brunch is extremely popular on the weekends, and during the afternoons they're a great place to stop for coffee and dessert or one of their original sandwiches.

I could give you food advice, but you will receive better tips at www.louisvillehotbytes.com

Just register for free (takes 10 secs) and join the forum and the freindly folks from Louisville's online foodie community will tell you where to go. What price ranges and types of food you want? You like ethnic food? Be sure you tell them all that and also what dates you will come.

Some of my favorites are Proof, Primo, Volare, Palermo Viejo, L&N wine Bar and Bistro, Seviche, Avalon, and 610 Magnolia for fine dining. Jack Fry's is good and really gives a flavor for Louisville dining. Pat's is an old irish steakhouse that only accepts cash still! Be sure to check out one of our fine metro brewing companies, inlcuding New Albany Brewing Company and Cumberland Brews on Bardstown Road. Louisville's restuarants run the gamut from $$$$ for four star dining all the way to some real gem ethnic places, including may favorite little Mexican place called La Rosita in New Albany, IN. Unlike Lexington, there are literally thousands of restuarants in Louisville. For Thai, Mai's Thai in Jeffersonville, IN is good. I think Kashmir is pretty good for Indian. We even have Ethiopian, Korean, and African places! All sorts of stuff.
