Default Worried about relocating to North Kentucky

My husband and I will be relocating to Cincinnati area at the end of the year with our 2 young children. We are thinking about moving to North Kentucky because of the proximity to the city (he will be working near Eden Park). What are the tax differences between Ohio and Kentucky? What is the morning traffic like? We have been looking into Fort Thomas because of the school district and the small town feel, but since we are from California we also like a small city feel (not too suburban). Our second concern is that everything I have read says that is a predominantly a "white" community. We currently live in a very family oriented middle/upper class community in California, however it is fairly diverse. My husband and I are of spanish decent (although our family has been in the states for hundreds of years). We are concerned about our kids being accepted since they do not look "white". Is this something we should be concerned with?

Northern Kentucky is a pretty diverse area of Kentucky. I'd say you would absolutely not have to worry about your children not being accepted. The area is one of the most affluent areas of the state, and I think you will be right at home with all Northern Kentucky has to offer.

Northern Kentucky isn't even close to being diverse. It is very white. It is nice, but don't fool yourself into believing it is diverse. For diversity, the only places in KY are Lexington and Louisville.

As for Fort Thomas:

The racial makeup of the city was 97.61% White, 0.73% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.22% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.62% of the population.

Ohio has higher income and sales taxes. Depending on what part of Ohio or Kentucky, I think Ohio would probably have the higher property tax as well. However, Kentucky has personal property taxes on cars and boats. which Ohio does not.

Cannot say, since I live in another part of No. KY. However, if you end up in Ft. Thomas, you should have an easy commute. You'll pick up I-471 at Ft. Thomas and drive about five miles north. I-471 ends right about Eden Park.

I don't think so. Granted, there are other parts of No. KY that are more ethnic. But I think all communties in No. Ky are accepting of newcomers.

Under your circumstance, I think Ft. Thomas is the perfect fit. Great schools, short commute to work, nice neighborhood. You can't lose.
