Default Need All Possible Info About Hazard, Ky.

Need All Possible Info About Hazard, Ky.
My friend has a good chance for employment in surgery at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard. We drove to Hazard for the interview. The area is certainly nice from a nature perspective, but the streets in town are somewhat confusing and we didn’t find any shopping areas. Info needed would be about grocery shopping, and other general merchandise. Where are those stores? Exactly, where is the center of Hazard? Like downtown?
My friend will be looking to rent (1 bedroom) for about $400-$500 per month. She will need a place that accepts her two little terriers. Would this be hard to find? Are rentals listed in the local newspaper?
Any and all info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know a bit about Hazard. The 3 big grocery stores are Food City, Wal-Mart Supercenter, Sav A Lot. There's probably more that I'm not aware of. Wal-Mart & Lowe's are on Highway 80 along with a small shopping center called Daniel Boone Plaza. The other main shopping center is Black Gold Plaza off Highway 15. It has a JC Penney and several other stores.

Downtown Hazard and Hazard in general has an odd layout. That is due to the terrain of the region, very mountainous. Downtown is off Highway 15, turn onto Highway 2451.

Thanks for the info. On the way I drove from 15 onto 80, but searched for signs to the hospital. It seems that 80 has quite a bit of commerce, but I didn't want to look around and maybe rear end a car.

Here's the city web site:

City of Hazard, KY

Nice photographic history here:

Hazard Kentucky & Perry County: A Photographic History

That cool Mother Goose house is there, I think. But man, you are talking about a very small town in a very backwater area. I hope you know what you are getting into.
