Default Need All Possible Info About Hazard, Ky.

Need All Possible Info About Hazard, Ky.
My friend has a good chance for employment in surgery at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard. We drove to Hazard for the interview. The area is certainly nice from a nature perspective, but the streets in town are somewhat confusing and we didn’t find any shopping areas. Info needed would be about grocery shopping, and other general merchandise. Where are those stores? Exactly, where is the center of Hazard? Like downtown?
My friend will be looking to rent (1 bedroom) for about $400-$500 per month. She will need a place that accepts her two little terriers. Would this be hard to find? Are rentals listed in the local newspaper?
Any and all info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know a bit about Hazard. The 3 big grocery stores are Food City, Wal-Mart Supercenter, Sav A Lot. There's probably more that I'm not aware of. Wal-Mart & Lowe's are on Highway 80 along with a small shopping center called Daniel Boone Plaza. The other main shopping center is Black Gold Plaza off Highway 15. It has a JC Penney and several other stores.

Downtown Hazard and Hazard in general has an odd layout. That is due to the terrain of the region, very mountainous. Downtown is off Highway 15, turn onto Highway 2451.

Thanks for the info. On the way I drove from 15 onto 80, but searched for signs to the hospital. It seems that 80 has quite a bit of commerce, but I didn't want to look around and maybe rear end a car.

Here's the city web site:

City of Hazard, KY

Nice photographic history here:

Hazard Kentucky & Perry County: A Photographic History

That cool Mother Goose house is there, I think. But man, you are talking about a very small town in a very backwater area. I hope you know what you are getting into.

Default hazard ky

Hi! In a post a year ago you mentioned hazard as being "very small and back woods". Do you live there or have you? I am searching for the turner family and really need some help! Being a common name(turner) im hoping some one will talk to me. Please let me know! Thanks! Gail

I have lived here 90% of my life. Drugs are getting worse everyday. It is your typical small mountain town. Little to do, mediocre schools. Half the people here need their drivers license revoked. Watch the people on the road, don't have kids, stay in a decent neighborhood and you should be fine until the boredom sets in.

Good lord Fletcher. That's all I can come up with is "good lord".... geez. Hazard is not small and so called "back woods".

Hmmm, I dare you to walk into a local pub and say that outloud.

Turner is a common name just about 9/10ths in the towns and cities and the USA? If you are more specific you might get a better response. That's kind of like asking if anyone knows a "John Smith"?

Hazard KY is a beautiful part of the state if you ask me. Then again no one asked me did they?

I'll be working this fall at the Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard. I could really use some help finding a place to rent but can't find anything online.

If anyone can give me ideas of where to look (what is the closest location to Hazard on craigslist) or a realtor's website that handles rentals, it would be very much appreciated.

Also, what are some nearby towns/cities that I could possible consider living in that would be a 20 minute or less drive to Hazard?

Thanks!

All I know about Hazard is there was some good ole boys,
They never meant no harm,
It beat all we ever saw they been in trouble with the law since the day they was born.

Makin' their way, the only way they know how,
That's just a little bit more than the law would allow,

Just a good ole boys,
Wouldn't change if they could,
Fightin' the system like two modern-day Robin Hoods.

That's all I know about Hazard, KY.

I tell everyone I come in contact with how miserable Hazard is and most agree. We don't have pubs, we have redneck bars. It has so much potential but alot of money is wasted around here. Hazard isn't the worst place in the world but nowhere near the best either. I would like to see some more jobs besides fast food and the coal industry to come in to town but alot of people are set in their own non ambitious ways.
