Lookin At Kentucky
okay i'm a new yorker, but a country girl at heart.
i'v always wanted to move to the south, and finally i have the chance.
i am 24 years old, single and looking for the following in a place. if you think you know of a good place for me, PLEASE TELL
*a lot of friendly people, people that basiclaly know you so preferably a small town, but not TOO small.
*not a city feel, more of a small town feel. with quaint little shops that might sell nick-nacks, a supermarket, some restaurants, some places for a young girl to hang out.
*horseback riding is a major plus. i would LOVE to have a house with a stable sometime in my future. i'v taken lessons for a few years now.
*a good community, low crime-good schools, etc.
* i like the outdoors. so the more there is to do outdoors the better for me.
if you know of ANY PLACE. please tell all =) thank you.

i am thinking shelbville and la grange, two suburbs of Louisville, would be excellent for you. Both feel like small towns on their own but have excellent horse riding nearby, as well as amenities of the city close enough so you can do the young single thing. I am a 25 year old single guy and I am having a good time in lville with that!

Stx: Thanks for clarifying that. I had no idea whether you were a man or woman, young or old. I thought of you as a woman sometimes and a man at other times. It's so hard to tell on these posts unless someones name ends in "gal"!

Never underestimate the allure of the western end of the state. Paducah has all you are asking for and more and the property prices are far cheaper than in or around the golden triangle (L'ville, Lex, Northern Metro area) Many small house farms can be had for under $200K some even under $100K and I'm talking setup with stables, barns, ring and a house. All of KY is nice, but I prefer the warmer climate and longer season of the western end.

I think you've described Lexington or its outer reaches (or small towns just around it) to a "T". There are 500 horse farms withing a 30 mile radius of Lexington, so it is horse heaven, lots of places to ride, instruction, etc. As for outdoors - the there's a fabulous outdoor playground called the Daniel Boone National Forest about an hour's drive away....

I agree, plus she would be close to a thriving social scene in a bigger city.
(Oddly enough, I am thinking of the reverse and moving to NYC. Maybe we should swap homes!)
