Exclamation Moving to Ft. Knox

Hi, My name is Samantha and I am engaged to a Soldier and he is to be PCSing to Ft. Knox come this January (2010) I myself am from Germany but grew up here in Milwaukee, WI.. I currently am still in Milwaukee but my fiance is stationed in Germany still..

My question is, after reading alot of other topics about moving here, I am still lost on which city to move to or look at. I will be working in Louisville myself but dont mind a drive of 45minutes.. But wouldnt mind something in between the 2 places.. I know how the Army is being that I grew up in this lifestyle so driving and moving and what not is not a bother to me.. So any suggestions for the young Newly weds?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a job tied down? If you know you are going to be working in Louisville, then either Pleasure Ridge Park (40258), or Fairdale (40118) would likely be a middle ground. If you have school age children, I would prefer either Brandenburg, or Elizabethtown.

Another good place is Valley Station, 40272. This is closer to Fort Knox but is also on the the Gene Synder freeway, which opens up access to the rest of the metro area via expressway connections.

The main road to Ft Knox if 31W, and for Valley Station you want to look into areas on the east side of Dixie. Subdivisions like the newer areas off Valley Station Road, Deering roard, all of Prairie Village, all of the subdivisions off of Pages Lane.

The same rule-of-thumb of "East of Dixie" holds for Pleasure Ridge, which is closer to Louisville. Places that are nice are the areas off St Andrews Church Road, Arnoldtown Road, St Anthony Church Road, Gagel, Palatka Road (which is getting closer to the older part of Louisville).

If you want more land and a more rural setting, yet with reasonable access to Fort Knox and Louisville buying a house in the valleys and hollows of the Jefferson County Forest could be nice. This is also Valley Station but bordering on Fairdale and Bullit County. Locations: Blevins Gap Road, Scotts Gap Road, Bearcamp, Pendleton Road, Pauleys Gap Road.

West of Dixie the houses are a bit smaller and more from the 1950s. Closer to the river it becomes more industrial. There are some new subdivisions in this area, too, but am not that familiar with them.
