Remember, a county sheriff was assassinated a few years back for trying to break up a drug cartel. Being a good law enforcer in Eastern Kentucky usually equals being a dead law enforcer.

This happened in Pulaski County (East of Somerset). It didn't have anything to do with drugs. A guy that was running against Catron for sheriff was behind that murder.

Not to argue the point since I don't know anything about it, but Wikipedia says the guy running against him and a well know drug dealer in the area had it done. Wouldn't that make it seem motivated by drugs and his strong stand against the drug trade in the area?

You have no idea how little I care about their troubled past. Were it up to me ATF and DEA would be turning that area upside down until the moron who wants to intimidate the FED surrendered or was killed by an airstrike

Wikipedia has lots of false info. Catron's running mate was on drugs but the murder itself wasn't drug related. Also, Pulaski County has never been considered Eastern KY. Someone needs to look at a map....

What was the motivation for the murder? Was it to just win the election or something else? I am not extemely knowledgeable about the geography of eastern Kentucky. I have been over there a few times but not a lot.

I own a piece of property down in Clay County, got it to go deer hunting on but it's one of the few places I go armed year around. There good people in the county and they nice and friendly but the bad people are REALLY bad - that's the reason I carry a pistol and/or rifle if I'm outside my truck. It's depressing and sad -this event only adds to it.

The Bill Sparkman Memorial March will start at 3:30 Sunday, October 11th at the London Walmart and go to the Clay County cemetery where he was found last month.
|
Memorial walk planned for census worker
I didn't realize he had lived so close to where he was murdered.
