Relocating/Retiring to Kentucky
Hi All. We have already (we think) found a little retirement cabin on Lake Nolin that we want to semi retire to from Annapolis, MD. Kentucky won't be a culture shock as hubby was born and raised there and I am from Oklahoma. The cabin's address is Clarkson, KY and not far from Leitchfield, KY. I would welcome and appreciate all views on both little towns. We are certainly not at our age looking for night life and actually once you get me on this little 2 acres in my cabin, I probably won't leave it until I have/am forced to buy groceries in town. We are looking forward to getting back to an area where "real" people exist. And no, we have not found any real people here in Maryland. Just wanted to get some views on the area.

It's a little too rural for my tastes, but you've picked an interesting location -- not too far from Louisville, Mammoth Cave, Owensboro and even just a few hours from my favorite rural area, Land Between the Lakes. So I don't think there is much in the Leitchfield area but peace and quiet, and you are two hours at most from a lot of interesting spots.

It is a nice area, but definitely rural. You will be close to Elizabethtown and not too far from either Bowling Green or Louisville ( a little over an hour each way) so you won't be far from larger cities if you need things. Leitchfield is very conservative so I hope that doesn't bother you but it is a nice little town with friendly people.

Thanks DixieGirl, Off Topic and MissyMom for your views. This is starting to sound really good to us. We hold pretty liberal views politically but are a little bit more to the center in social views. We have a lot of conservative friends so depending on the subject we either debat them, ignore them, or agree with them. Hubby is pro gun and I am just pro organic gardening and getting away from Uppity Yuck Yuck Annapolis and the DC mentality.

I suggest highly that you make a trip to visit and see how you like it, if you're liberal you may be uncomfortable there.

I was thinking the same thing, Missy. The progun part works, but not sure how liberal politics will play. This is a very Christian conservative area.

I think we will do okay with the more conservative Christians. Hubby currently works for a conservative Christian company and we were both raised that way. We probably lean more towards the center of most issues and we will be at the lake where contact with people will be more limited than in town. Thanks to all for your responses. And yes, we are taking a trip to the area around Thanksgiving time.

That's good that you feel ok with it. I am fairly conservative, but the people in that area can be extreme. Being at the lake will be a good thing.
