Well, blue, you spelled that question out very clearly. Your grade is an A++!

How does Hardin County rate ? I mean the people, property tax, and commodities, not to mention crime rate.

I currently live in Berea, Ky, I am going to Eastern Kentucky University which is 12 mile drive. I don't recommend Berea (sorry if I offend) it is just way too small, if I want to anything with my family (shopping, entertainment, we still have to go to Richmond where the university is). I lived in Lexington, Ky for a year, they have everything you could want for shopping and entertainment, just no yard to play in. I am from Paducah, KY on the west side of the state. Paducah is where I would live again and again, in fact I can not wait till I am done with school. Paducah has a mall, 2 super walmarts, 3 Krogers. There is 2 bowling alleys and a movie theatre, plus outside of Paducah there is a drive in cinaplex. There is Land Between the lakes for the water enthusiasts and plenty of land on the outskirts of town for those wanting 5-100 acres of land all to themselves and a 15-30 minute drive to town. If you want serious shopping then Clarksville/Nashville is 1.5 to 2 hours south, St. Louis is 3 hours west, Chicago 7 hours Northwest, Louisville 4 hours east. Paducah even has an airport outside of town for easy traveling in the skys. Yet it is a small town, we don't lock the doors or cars majority of the time. Our schools are good and not overpopulated. We have the quilt show every year (april I think) and we have a special relocation program for artist to relocate. If you like to gamble Harrahs Casino is a 15 minute drive from Paducah across the river in Illinois.

Central KY - Danville is a great place to consider or maybe just south such s Moreland, Hustonville, etc. Conveniently located about 30 miles from Lexington and great things to offer you as you enjoy hiking, and just enjoying life.

Need a little more info.
What is a low price to you? How close do you need to be to a city? Does your huband need to be near a hospital for work or for health care? Most people think Lexington when someone says Central Kentucky. There are a lot of great small towns in Central Kentucky.

Thanks. The other two places we are interested in are Winchester and Ashland in that order. I suppose we should be near a major city.
