I found a great recipe for KY cornbread that I just have to try! my mom is a wonderful cook, but she doesn't have too many traditional Southern recipes, though I have the recipe for her Angel Biscuits. they're made with buttermilk and require overnight refrigeration.

I've gotten my own cooking skills together as I've grown up, though, and I can make many of these dishes listed. the Hot Brown is the easiest one as the only real room for individuality is the cheese/gravy sauce. sausage gravy is THICK and so rich, mmm, if only so many of these weren't "sometimes foods." :P

Kentucky-fried Chicken is a signature food of Kentucky no question. Even though the Colonel was native to Henryville, Indiana, that's more a part of Kentucky than it is Indiana. KFC's are found in every state bordering Kentucky now, but Kentucky has the most, no question about it. If KFC originated in another state, why on earth would you call it KFC?

It not just in every bordering state, KFC has more than 11,000 restaurants every state and in more than 80 countries and territories around the world.

Frankly, I think our signature food is Bourbon Whiskey ... whiskey a food it's made from corn.

Mutton BBQ. Try Good Ol' Boys BBQ in Hanson, KY. It's not open on Sundays, but it is some of the best BBQ around.

is El Chico a local place? I haven't been, yet. Captain D's is a chain, though DELICIOUS.

Captain D's will be a Tennessee sig food, they were founded in Donelson, TN in 1969 and called Mr. D's back then.

However, how many folks remember Daniel Boone's Fired Chicken? Now long gone!

I would say fried chicken is definitely a signature food of ky but then again I would say anything fried is a signature food of ky(fried green tomatoes)! The Hot Brown, derby pie, bourbon balls and the bourbon that goes in them are all also VERY Kentucky!
