Thanks for that info! It's good to know, considering how often we've been going through there since we moved to NC. Usually I'm the "speeder"
and 10mph over is what I normally set my cruise at!

I don't believe that is true. I think 26mph + warrants a madatory court date and possible license suspension. Everything under is just subject to the point system.

I believe anything 10 MPH or over the posted speed limit will take points off your license if you choose to pay it.
So no, he wasnt doing him a favor. A favor would be to write the ticket for 64 in a 55, not 67.
