Heard of all that stuff, I use to work for DJJ and one of my good friends heads up Western State. I know Paducah has some real good hospitals that I believe have MHMR as there are sheltered workshops here. I have a number of friend who are Dr. of various types in which I can get more info if you get serious on the area.
Overall western KY is a really nice area, sure it lacks it some places and thrives in others ... but doesn't everywhere?

Murray and far west Kentucky isn't a bad area. I wouldn't live there, but I love to visit. Lake Barkley and Kenlake State Parks, as well as Land Between the Lakes are great places to get in touch with nature and take a hike without the hub-bub of lake tourists. Wickliffe Mounds is thousands of years of history compact in one area, surrounded by bayous and swamps (yes, we have those in Kentucky. That might remind Diamond Dee of southeast Texas.) Paducah is a regional commercial center, but kind of a dump of a town.
If you move to Madisonville, that's fine, but I still disagree with a previous poster about the drivers. Maybe I just went to M'ville on a bad day, but some of the most impolite drivers I've EVER seen are in M'ville (and I've driven in Cincinnati, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, etc..) My motto for M'ville: "Po-Dunk Town Living, Big City Impatience." But, M'ville is also a nice town in its own right with a few larger city amenities, and with time it will grow.

Can anyone give me the property tax rate in Murray? Cost of living? We are currently looking for a home for approx $330,000 in Murray with maybe 3-4 acres of land...I hear the property taxes are low in Kentucky. But what do they mean by "low"? Anyone help me?

For what its worth, I have lived in Madisonville my whole life. My hubby & I have been married 20 years and have never wanted to live anywhere else. Our children feel the same way. We have a VERY clean town, and are attracting more businesses and restuarants each day. We are wet, as we have several restuarants that serve drinks if that is your "cup of tea".
I have never had a driver yell or honk at me. Murray and Paducah is very pretty and well maintained as well. Best of luck to you on your search.

Hello, I am going to be moving to Paducah and am trying to find out some information on the town. I hear that there are good areas of town and bad areas of town, but no one told me how "bad" bad was. Is any one from the area and might be able to tell me alittle about the town. Thank you

LOL~ For THAT much, you could probably buy LOTS of land and a HUGE house in Murray! My goodness! LOL
I think if you come to Murray, play hardball with the real estate people. They will see you coming and count their commission while they drool! My best friend lives in Murray, she works at MSU. For her modest 3 bd, 2 bth, 1 car garage house~ I think she told me she paid just under $70K... She loved it because it was close to the school, not far for her or her husband to travel.
Because I wasn't sure on the tax amount, I found this for you:
Murray, Kentucky Taxes - MyMurray.com
I hope it helps.
I don't think I would tell anyone how much you are willing to pay, I'd look online for houses and property, find a real estate person who seems sincere, and I think you can find your dream house~ or have it BUILT!~ on some beautiful property.
Murray IS beautiful. Western KY is beautiful!
Good luck with your move, finding what you like, and all the details. Hope that I helped, that the details from that site gave you a hand. ~Jessi~

Fulton is in Hickman county and Hazel is in Calloway they are about 25 miles apart. I'd have to really know what you are looking for to really answer your question.

Both are close to the Land Between the Lakes (LBL), Reelfoot Lake, KY and Barkley Lake, Ohio, Mississippi, Cumberland, Clark, and Tennessee Rivers. There are state parks and wild life management area all over and tone of nature everywhere. Lots of small town goings on and festivals, and most people are laid back and welcoming.

Well Davart, if you live in the real Western Ky then you should know that Fulton is not in Hickman County. Fulton is in Fulton County--the county seat is the City of Hickman Ky. Clinton is the county seat of Hickman County. Also, Reelfoot Lake is not in Ky. It is Tennessee, Lake County, closest cities are Tiptonville, TN and Samburg, TN.

Yes I know that and your point is?
Portions of Reelfoot WLR are in KY ... check you map. True the bulk is in TN.
And as for Fulton being in Hickman, it was a typo that should have been Fulton AND Hickman.
Do you feel better now that you pointed out my typos and nitpicked my statements?
